Saw this sizable nope rope on a hike and bike trail this evening. I trolled my dad hard. He was frantically calling me and I wasn't answering. The text exchange wasn't nearly as funny as what he called me on the phone.

For those of us who grew up in Oak Hill (before it was SW Austin) a rat snake in the side of the house was a damn near annual event.
I'm in SW ATX and saw a mouse scamper across my garage the other day. That dude needs to come work at my house.
This was in Belterra West of Oakhill a bit and I think it was a checkered garter snake.
Don't worry... just tell them they're coming out of their hibernation nest in his attic. Should only be a couple hundred more.

I have one of those "Snakes of Central Texas" field guides and they do not list Yellowbellied Watersnake. Is it another name for something else or did they not put it on this guide???12f Mane said:

It is also called the blotched watersnake. The yellowbelly name usually refers to older snakes where the blotched pattern has faded to a blackish-brown color is no longer evident. They are both considered subspecies of Nerodia erythrogaster, but in my opinion the difference between those two "subspecies" is probably mostly age.

Looks like a Mojave Rattlesnake, but maybe somebody more knowledgeable can chime in.
Not a Mojave. They have fewer stripes on their tail which are also wider, and they have a greenish coloration.
