Sort of... the western species (west coast) are usually considered a different species, from what I recall.

The Texas and more central species are considered to be Bull snakes.

Or more likely, they're laying low and plotting their next assault. I'd watch out for an obvious snake posing as bait while others flank you like the raptors in Jurassic Park.

So my boys ran up to me yesterday afternoon claiming there was a snake in the living room. I figured they were trying to be funny and talking about one of their toy rubber snakes. Nope, a little Texas brown snake was hanging out by the TV. He was probably attracted by all the snails we've had crawling on our windows in the mornings lately.

Bull snakes are a subspecies of gopher snakes. Gophers as a whole are Pituophis catenifer and bulls are Pituophis catenifer sayi. There are many subspecies of gopher snakes. Taxonomy!
