Could be. She was actually the bigger of the two. I disrupted their home a little so I hope they'll forgive me. I think I still left them plenty of quality options.

I have it on good authority that he occasionally shows up for work smelling strongly of skunk too.

My brother had a 5-6 foot long boa when we were teenagers. One day it got out and we couldn't find it anywhere. A couple of days later the housekeeper came and about had a heart attack when she picked up a laundry basket full of clothes and it was there just hanging out.

Prayers for the guy...

Sadly, another example of what happens when you try to interact with the snake vs leaving it alone or handling from a long ways off (shotgun).

Stay away from venomous snakes... even when they're dead.

Poor guy. The Mojave is the worst rattler to get bit by in Texas. However, it is one of the snakes used to make crofab anti-venom, so if you can get anti-venom more quickly you will be O.K.

Leave it alone and you'll be fine.

Something doesn't add up in this story either. Mohave rattlesnakes don't come anywhere close to Lubbock.

Only twice in twelve years.

...although my co-workers would have you believe there is a lingering odor that doesn't go away I'm a day or two.

To be fair, they do state in the article that "some" folks are saying it was a Western Diamond Back.

Honest question....what is an "advanced" rattlesnake? Is that just a typo?

For others:

Quote:

Texas is home to six or more advanced rattlesnakes, including the Mojave rattlesnake, which is what reportedly bit Richards.

I would think the term advanced is referring to the type of venom vs a standard Western... although I am not sure there are 6 in TX that have a Neuro-Hemo toxic venom mix. I'd have to defer to 12fmane or one of the experts.

Not sure. Can't say I've heard the term "advanced rattlesnake" before.

Maybe it's like a Monsanto genetically engineered rattlesnake? Or one that had been exposed to hogs and is "advanced" not to rattle?

advanced snakes eat the hogs that cause the others to stop rattling

A friend of mine knows Milton. He told me they were billing him at $15k a pop.

The story goes that he and his wife were sitting in the hot tub. Saw it slither across the patio with a bird or rat in its mouth. Milton went to get a hoe or shovel to kill it. Here's where he messed up...the snake had slithered into some ivy. Instead of using his tool of choice to move the ivy around he used his hand. Snake caught him the between the thumb and index finger. Was having seizures within 10 min. Wife called two of his buddies to meet her at the hospital. When they got there he was completely limp with eyes rolled back in his head. It was pretty bad for awhile. To the point that they didn't know if he was gonna make it. He would seem perfectly fine, talking, carrying on and then seemingly lose consciousness. Got a text update this morning saying that he had been doing a lot better. Glad to know he's been discharged.

Here's one I killed two years ago not far from where Milton was bit. I just assumed it was a western diamondback. Is that correct?

Friend got bitten by a small diamondback 10 or so years ago. Was being stupid picking reptile mites off the snake. Was very experienced handling venomous snakes.

15 vials of antivenin later, he's still paying on it.

I would agree. A little lighter colored, but western.
