Just looked at the site plans Pluckers submitted to the city this month. It is going to be a large location. The plans call for a restaurant space of 9,205 square feet with an additional 5,400 square foot patio.

For reference on size, the former Ozona space that is out on the market right now is 7,400 square feet.

They'll be doing it again (another survey flight) in about a year, I believe they said so no idea.

This makes so much sense. Layne's locally had dramatically raised prices recently and cut portions a bit as well. Same food so far, but the value is not nearly as good as it was.

Anyone have any information about that Farm Patch property? They currently have their Christmas Tree tent there every year but I wonder if they will eventually move their existing location to that spot, or open a second location there?

Hopefully, they will not bring the quality down, similar to was seen in the Allen franchise. The food (chicken) there was not the same, and had me questioning my Layne's over Kane's stance. However, moving back down here restored the faith.

I am curious about it as well. It was in the original announcement several years ago but I hadn't heard anything since. Within the past several weeks, they've updated the site plans to include Pluckers and revised the building lay out some, but still have Farm Patch shown as going in. If that had fallen through, I would have thought it would have been removed when they did all the plan updates.

Corporate taking over locations is never a good sign for how those locations are performing or being managed.

McDonald's in Galveston just had their locations taken over by corporate. It's amazing things can go that badly when the blueprint for success is there

Given this goes along with Garratt's retirement, hopefully it is more related to him wanting to retire from running multiple restaurants rather than corporate booting him.

Given this goes along with Garratt's retirement, hopefully it is more related to him wanting to retire from running multiple restaurants rather than corporate booting him.
He deliberately sold the rights off to Corporate for the expansion in other markets but wanted to hold onto the BCS locations.

IMO - as someone who's frequented both, the BCS locations have always been far and away better in the quality and the true "Laynes" experience vs the canned watered down version you get in the Metroplex.

So I think you're right that he is now wanting to retire and step back/wind down. Makes sense all around.

I'm still a believer in Layne's but they need to poach some of the executives at Canes to help them improve in the quality control and customer experience department.

The owner of Clementine's also owns Harvey Washbangers and Stella. He knows the area and the market well. If he is closing Clementine's before football season, it's because he does not see football weekends making enough of a difference for Clementine's to make money. It's really a shame. It was very good and such a unique idea.

What are the crowds like in downtown Bryan on gameday? I know they run that shuttle to campus and back so I'm sure people pregame down there and then take the bus. We are always tailgating so have never had a chance to check it out.

Not nearly as busy as you'd think. Every time I've used the downtown shuttle, it's locals on it. Most of them just head home.

Bars get busy. Some restaurants are busier than usual but it's nothing like CS restaurant busy.

We went a few Saturdays ago for lunch. We were one of only 3 patrons there the whole hour we dined. We used to go to Maddens and I'd never seen as few people there before as that day.

There is a place called Casa Pita going in the vacant spot next to the newish Chipotle at Wellborn and SW Parkway.

I couldn't find anything about Casa Pita other than it is owned by Yela Concepts. It must be a new concept as it isn't even on their concept page.

That's what surprises me most. I'm no expert and hate to second guess, but 6 months doesn't seem long enough to establish a clientele for that kind of restaurant … especially when 3 of those months are during the summer. I'm just really disappointed because it was very good and the kind of unique place we need around here.
