Just looked at the site plans Pluckers submitted to the city this month. It is going to be a large location. The plans call for a restaurant space of 9,205 square feet with an additional 5,400 square foot patio.

For reference on size, the former Ozona space that is out on the market right now is 7,400 square feet.

More hangars being built. Still won't satisfy the demand but will accommodate about half (around 20 new ones) the waiting list (about 50).

Look at the flight paths they had them surveying. That's not for new hangars. Unless they're putting them across 21 and outside the current fenced perimeter.
Maybe they were just giving rides. Or a new pilot practicing his turns?

It was for the city. I asked but they (helibacon) have an NDA and wouldn't elaborate.

Something for FedEx? Aren't they planning to start using Coulter for something? Runway extension?
That's weird. What would be so secretive that the city was trying to do that they made them sign a NDA?

They'll be doing it again (another survey flight) in about a year, I believe they said so no idea.

Often times when you put things out for quote or a bid you have to sign an NDA.

The three CS Layne's have been acquired by corporate.

https://www.restaurantnews.com/laynes-acquires-three-flagship-college-station-restaurants-082823/

Quote:

College Station, TX (RestaurantNews.com) In addition to its exponential growth in new markets, Layne's Chicken Fingers, the Soon to be Famous chicken franchise, has announced a corporate acquisition of the original three locations in College Station, Texas. Prior to the acquisition, the three restaurants were owned by Mike Garratt, who was the sole owner of Layne's before its foray into the franchise space. When the brand made this transition, Garratt maintained licensure in College Station and continued to run the three original restaurants as he served alongside the franchise leadership team. At the time of his recent retirement, the Layne's corporate team chose to acquire his restaurants.

--

What Will Change in College Station?

When Garratt took ownership of the flagship restaurants, they were a quintessential "mom and pop" businesses. He took pride in providing a welcoming, relaxed experience, and he was dedicated to providing Layne's traditional core menu at the highest quality.
The guests who consider themselves a part of the College Station Layne's cult following will continue to receive the same friendly service they always have, explained Reed. They may notice a branding refresh inside and out, and there may be a few additions to the menu, but the Layne's tradition will carry on.

"This is our history; this is where our story starts," said Samir Wattar, chief operating officer. "Right now, the plan is to make these locations a shining example of the brand that honors where and how everything began while making sure they represent the brand as we take the entire system to the next level."

Now that Garratt is no longer the exclusive owner of the territory surrounding the College Station restaurants, the Layne's team can also consider establishing new restaurants that will fill the gaps, so to say, between existing locations in College Station and those in Houston and Austin, for example.

This makes so much sense. Layne's locally had dramatically raised prices recently and cut portions a bit as well. Same food so far, but the value is not nearly as good as it was.

Anyone have any information about that Farm Patch property? They currently have their Christmas Tree tent there every year but I wonder if they will eventually move their existing location to that spot, or open a second location there?

Hopefully, they will not bring the quality down, similar to was seen in the Allen franchise. The food (chicken) there was not the same, and had me questioning my Layne's over Kane's stance. However, moving back down here restored the faith.

I am curious about it as well. It was in the original announcement several years ago but I hadn't heard anything since. Within the past several weeks, they've updated the site plans to include Pluckers and revised the building lay out some, but still have Farm Patch shown as going in. If that had fallen through, I would have thought it would have been removed when they did all the plan updates.

Is the family that owns the Farm Patch also the commercial space developer? If they are, it may be for marketing purposes and never actually get built.

Hopefully, this means they'll empty the trash cans now and again and maybe wipe off a table after someone eats there.

Crazy talk, I'm sure.

Corporate taking over locations is never a good sign for how those locations are performing or being managed.

McDonald's in Galveston just had their locations taken over by corporate. It's amazing things can go that badly when the blueprint for success is there

Given this goes along with Garratt's retirement, hopefully it is more related to him wanting to retire from running multiple restaurants rather than corporate booting him.

He deliberately sold the rights off to Corporate for the expansion in other markets but wanted to hold onto the BCS locations.

IMO - as someone who's frequented both, the BCS locations have always been far and away better in the quality and the true "Laynes" experience vs the canned watered down version you get in the Metroplex.

So I think you're right that he is now wanting to retire and step back/wind down. Makes sense all around.

I'm still a believer in Layne's but they need to poach some of the executives at Canes to help them improve in the quality control and customer experience department.

Clementines closing really sucks. I just don't understand how you can close after only 6 months and not even waiting to make it through a football season when traffic and visitors are at their highest point.

No one closes unless they're losing $, which translates to feeding it $ every month.

The owner of Clementine's also owns Harvey Washbangers and Stella. He knows the area and the market well. If he is closing Clementine's before football season, it's because he does not see football weekends making enough of a difference for Clementine's to make money. It's really a shame. It was very good and such a unique idea.

What are the crowds like in downtown Bryan on gameday? I know they run that shuttle to campus and back so I'm sure people pregame down there and then take the bus. We are always tailgating so have never had a chance to check it out.

Not nearly as busy as you'd think. Every time I've used the downtown shuttle, it's locals on it. Most of them just head home.

Bars get busy. Some restaurants are busier than usual but it's nothing like CS restaurant busy.

There is a place called Casa Pita going in the vacant spot next to the newish Chipotle at Wellborn and SW Parkway.

I couldn't find anything about Casa Pita other than it is owned by Yela Concepts. It must be a new concept as it isn't even on their concept page.

That's what surprises me most. I'm no expert and hate to second guess, but 6 months doesn't seem long enough to establish a clientele for that kind of restaurant … especially when 3 of those months are during the summer. I'm just really disappointed because it was very good and the kind of unique place we need around here.
