Rangers will and should manipulate his service time. Best case for Leiter to come up is like 20 days into the 23 season.

Big caveat is that the new CBA may and should close that loophole, and then we might see him earlier.

Some good news today - Trevor Story was not traded, so there isn't some team with 2 months to romance him. So he can come home to Texas next year.

After seeing those home/road splits the other day, not sure I want to throw too much $$$ his way. Maybe I'm underestimating him, but we need to do some due diligence on this one. Hell, our owners will only be signing re-treads this off-season anyway, so doesn't really matter anyway.

Same boat. Don't want Story. If we're gonna spend money in the off-season I hope it's on Seager and/ or bring Syndergaard home.
Getting Noah back here would be awesome and might not be nearly as pricey as one would think. I have met this kid a few times (my #3 son had some classes with him at Mansfield Legacy) and he really has his head screwed on right.

I really do struggle to determine if you actually believe this stuff happened, or if it's just your way of trying to paint yourself as a much better predictor/scout of talent than you actually are. With you edit-deleting the bulk of your old posts in order to "lessen your social footprint", it's conveniently allowed you to just claim some pretty outlandish things.

Zero people were thinking Calhoun would replace Odor at 2B. The Rangers had just signed Odor to a 6 year deal 4 months earlier, and he was coming off a 2.4 WAR year.

The idea that everyone thought Calhoun was an Odor replacement at 2B and you were the one telling all of us that wasn't going to be the case is pure fantasyland.

I wasn't aware of that. I still see a scenario where he starts in Frisco or is promoted to AA after a handful of starts.

Here is some additional confirmation. I heard it from Leiter when he was being interviewed during the game after signing. He mentioned going to school this Fall and that there are enough Vandy major/minor leaguers that work out at Vandy during the Fall that they have their locker room for former players.

I keep hearing you say Foscue is another Solak. Why? Because bleacher report and Evan grant said so? They're not even close to the same type of player. Foscue has way more power and upside and is also bigger than Solak.
Maybe unrelated analysis can end with the same conclusion. Maybe that is what he is.

The first time I know that I saw the Bleacher Report reference was about a month ago when I was looking for the scouting reports when he was drafted. I hated the Foscue pick and questioned the pick. I might have seen it back when he was drafted. If so, it wasn't a conscious reference.

I have been criticized routinely here for supporting Odor.

In 2017, when the Dodgers traded Calhoun to the Rangers, for Darvish... everyone thought he'd replace Odor. Only, the Dodgers had already given up on him at 2B and moved him to the OF.

During 2019, we got Danny Santana and people were saying "Santana should be our 2B..." I doubted he'd take it from Odor. NOT because Odor is the best 2B ever, but that Odor was better than him.

In July 2019, when we traded Tampa for Solak, most on here were talking about how we finally get rid of Odor at 2B. Grape remembers. Solak was supposed to be 2B in college... got moved to the OF and his last year they moved him back to 2B. Yankees drafted him as a 2B, moved him to OF.... traded to Tampa who tried him as 2B and moved him to the OF. So, when the Rangers traded for him to be a 2B... it was clear to ME... that every team that coached him had moved him to the OF... that he was such a great hitter they needed a spot for him, so OF it was.

So, when they drafted a guy who was a Util guy... it didn't make sense. Even if he was a natural 3B, we had a glut of prospects there.

Now, we've added like 3-4 MIFs that are Rule V guys.

FWIW, I though Solak was more than serviceable at 2B. It was his bat that was struggling and lead to his demotion. If he was hitting anywhere near where he was hitting towards the beginning of the season, he'd still be in Arlington IMO . Maybe he is a better fielder in the OF than 2B, I don't know, but I thought he did well enough in the field at 2B.

Who ever thought Calhoun was an Odor replacement at 2B? Dude was expected to be a lot more of a line drive/slash type with some moderate power without the high K count, but everyone knew he'd defensively be a guy they'd try to hide somewhere

What playground are you referring to? I know there is a kid play area in center field, up on the top level. Near where the bobble heads are that they show on tv quite a bit. I know that particular play area is open during the game, but not sure if that is the one you are referring to.

Biggest myth being pushed here is that you need a gold glove player at 2nd base. A great bat can make up for a few extra errors (Julio Franco is exhibit A).

Also, Nick Solak was never the hitting prospect that some of the players you continue to refer to as Solak starter kits are. He was a pretty good college hitter at Louisville, and only put up decent numbers in the minors. In my mind he was never more than a stop gap player, not a cornerstone. I've never seen anyone voice or write that expectation about him, yet you continue to act as though people have been touting him as the 2nd coming of ARod.

Calhoun was already an outfielder when he was acquired, and the Rangers never had plans for him at 2nd base - in fact, he's never played a game at 2nd for the Rangers... so that statement is patently false.

Speaking of Calhoun, I hope he is recovering ok from his latest injury. The dude can hit when healthy.

Also, Solak is 10 for 22 at Round Rock since being demoted. I'm not ready to give up on him.

Draft signings update. Deadline is today at 4pm:

https://www.yardbarker.com/general_sports/articles/rangers_sign_six_more_mlb_draft_picks/s1_16757_35511878?utm_source=mb&utm_medium=email&mb_edition=20210801&mb_loc=right_h

The Texas Rangers announced on Saturday that they've signed six more draft picks from the 2021 MLB Draft, less than 24 hours ahead of the signing deadline.
Those selections are:
LHP Larson Kindreich, Biola University (eighth round);
OF JoJo Blackmon, Escambia High School, Florida (11th round);
RHP Jackson Leath, Tennessee (12th round);
RHP Evan Elliott, Lethbridge College, Canada (15th round);
RHP Michael Alfonso, Key West High School, Florida (17th round);
And RHP Joseph Mantalvo, Central Pointe Academy, Florida (20th round).
No contract terms were announced by the Rangers.
The Rangers have now signed 14 of their 20 selections from the draft and have until 4 p.m. CST on Sunday to sign the remaining selections.
On Wednesday, the Rangers signed their first-round pick, Vanderbilt pitcher Jack Leiter.
Leiter reportedly signed an agreement for more than $7.9 million, which was over his slot value of $7,789,900. During Leiter's press conference, it was announced that the first-round pick would not pitch this season, citing his workload for Vanderbilt, which reached the College World Series.

Other Rangers draft picks that have already been signed, as previously reported by Inside the Rangers, include:
Cameron Cauley, SS, Barbers Hill HS (Third Round): Signed for $1,000,000 ($142,600 over-slot)
Ian Moller, C, Wahlert HS (Fourth Round): Signed for $700,000 ($134,400 over-slot)
Mitchell Bratt, LHP, Newmarket HS (Fifth round): Signed for $850,000 ($431,800 over-slot)
Chase Lee, RHP, Alabama (Sixth round): Signed for $75,000 ($237,400 under-slot)
Bradford Webb, RHP, VCU (Seventh round): Signed for $10,000 ($233,000 under-slot)
Liam Hicks, C, Arkansas State (Ninth round): Signed for $30,000 ($131,400 under-slot)
C.J. Widger, LHP, Rowan College at Gloucester County (10th round): Signed for $20,000 ($129,300 under-slot)

If you are trying to figure out who landed where from the recent trades, Scott Lucas had a good recap today:

Transactions from the past few days
RHP Glenn Otto assigned to Round Rock (more than just assigned, as you'll see below).
RHP Cole Uvila promoted to Round Rock from Frisco
C John Hicks assigned to Round Rock after clearing waivers
1B/3B Sherten Apostel activated in Frisco
LHP Cody Bradford promoted to Frisco from Hickory
IF Josh Smith assigned to Hickory
IF Ezequiel Duran assigned to Hickory
IF/OF Trevor Hauver assigned to Hickory
OF Kellen Strahm (Hickory) to the IL
RHP Kevin Gowdy assigned to Down East
UT Yenci Pena promoted to Down East
OF Antonio Cabello demoted to rookie league
RHP Joss Gessner assigned to rookie league
RHP Chase Lee (6th round pick) assigned to rookie league.

Also of note from Scott Lucas today:
-DH Nick Solak: 2-5, double, HR (1), .444/.500/.667
-Josh Jung batted .319/.393/.564 with five homers in 24 July games.
-In his first game with the Rangers, Trevor Hauver made his professional debut in the outfield. A shortstop in high school, Hauver played almost exclusively on an outfield corner at Arizona State, but with the Yankees he stepped back onto the dirt as a 2B. Hauver isn't known for is defense, irrespective of position. With both Justin Foscue and Ezequiel Duran as teammates, he needs a place to play.

Get out of here with this "he'll just play corner outfield" nonsense. It is not productive for those of us like DallasAg that want to wring our hands about how many 2B prospects there are. This is supposed to be an unsolvable problem
