According to the MLB app the Rangers currently have the 25th ranked ERA in the MLB. Orioles are dead last. Essentially a 1 run difference between us and them. I firmly believe we will make that up given the pitching rotation. Who is our best pitcher right now? Allard?
None of our projected starters for the next 3 games have ERAs below 5.00. Closest is Allard and he's 2-10

I'm pulling for this too. Just this season though. I'd be fine with o'fer to finish the year. Go get the #1 draft pick and start building through free agency/development the next few years.
Won't matter. This franchise could have drafted Nolan Ryan and he would have never made it out of Frisco. Our minor league program has never had a clue how to develop talent. We could get 10 #1 overall picks in a row and we'd screw every one of them up.

What players? You harp on how all we have is 800 versions of the same guy but expected we'd sort players out and start competing? Even had Gallo and Gibson not been traded you're still not coming close to competitive. You seem to have us alternately with a terrible farm system but only a couple of players away from competing. Nothing about that was ever realistic.
What happens if we have $200 million payroll next season? Are we competing then?
Why don't we stop acting like we know what JD and Young are going to do in the offseason, and maybe discuss who the potential FA are this upcoming offseason, and see if how/if they could be a fit on this roster moving forward. We picked up pieces in the draft and at the trade deadline that could be contributors soon, and our farm system is showing some promise. Let's fill in the blanks.

It's called poisoning the well. Who the hell is going to sign a FA contract to play for us? In the 50 year history of the Texas Rangers we've signed a 42 year old Nolan Ryan, Colby Lewis, and Wetteland. Those are our big splashes for pitching free agents. Beltre was nice - - we were coming off a WS appearance. A-Rod, Will Clark. After that we got Hunter Pence.Mr Gigem said:

Good free agents don't sign with teams with 5 straight miserable seasons. Good free agents don't even sign with the Houston Astros after the incredible run they've been on.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but the only thing that looks reasonable right now is to sell the team. Not sure why Mr. Davis and Mr. Simpson would want to wade through a rebuild. They're positioned perfectly to sell right now.

Ray Davis is super secretive but Bob Simpson talks occasionally - especially about his biggest passion, coin collecting. And it always seemed Davis was along for the ride of a good investment - Simpson was the one who really wanted the team.

Whoever we try to court this offseason, we have to do a really good job of explaining that we won't be a playoff baseball team in 2022, but we will be competitive. The window opens 2023.
I've heard several of the guys who cover the Rangers say that '23 is the target season for a return to truly competing for a division title. A couple even tossed out the notion that as bad as '21 has been, '22 could be equally bad or worse.
That's what I'm expecting. I think that the Rangers will be "active" in free-agency this postseason (to use a JD expression), but that it will be the type of signings that we've seen far too many of. Players coming off of injuries, guys who had one really good season sandwiched in between several mediocre to bad ones, etc. In other words, players more like Jordan Lyles than Max Scherzer.
My best case scenario is that the team is sold during this off-season, which would give a new owner/ownership group a season to acclimate and get their own plan in place moving forward.

I've seen one poster disagree with spending in FA, and that poster is a cancer to this thread
I don't think anyone would disagree with spending on FA if it meant it gave your team a chance to compete sooner rather than later
