I'm not expecting much from a lot of the players on the current roster. I think a lot of them are simply placeholders (3rd base as an example). Solak is a stop gap 2nd baseman until someone better comes along/develops IMO. Guzman will likely be DFAd when either Calhoun or Davis come off the DL - not that I'm excited about those two either.
This is a team made up of a lot of average players, and no stars. Gallo is going to have to prove his new approach is for real and that he isn't a .220 hitter with power. IKF could wind up being a star if they'll quit screwing with him and leave him at SS instead of moving him around every time what appears to be a better option comes along.
Bottom line is, this isn't a team built to compete this season, and I'm not sure it'll be much better next year barring a huge roster turnover (which isn't likely to happen).

I'm with you here.

I keep hearing everyone say Gallo is trade bait, but we probably won't get much for him if he doesn't start showing some power. Sure, he's a GG defender but he needs to start putting up some numbers. I'm very interested to see what we will get for him.

I like Solak but not as a player on my team. Seems like a good kid but he's a defensive liability and can't hit.

Culberson/Holt are placeholders until Jung/Apostel are ready. Dahl is a placeholder. Lowe is not a long-term solution. Neither is Guzman unfortunately. I've been pulling for him but I just don't think he'll ever make it.

In my opinion, only Gallo, IKF, and Trevino are more than stop gaps and Gallo will probably be gone at some point in the season.

The hell of it is, what we have coming behind them is not very talented either. Maybe Jung has a chance to be a future All-Star, but I'm not sure we have anyone else in our system that you could point to as someone to build around.

IKF is literally the only piece on this team that COULD still be playing for them if they get good again in the next 5 years. He's the current version of Michael Young, similar to Jose Altuve when they sucked mightily, but he was a stud.

The rest of that current roster just doesn't have anything. Maybe Solak or Taveras will turn into something decent, too, but I see nothing from anyone else. This team could easily lose 105+ games based on the current roster and probably losing Gallo to a trade later this season.

I like IKF, but he's hardly the building block of the future. Lowe and Solak are the young bats with the most promise. You guys need to give it quarter season or two before you jump ship. I also think Heim has more potential than Trevino. This is coming from a guy who was high on Trevino in the past. There is a lot to look forward to on this team.

I think we have a collection of role players and this thing is due for a multiple year re-build.

What exactly are you planning on trading a 26 year old with a career OPS+ of 78 for?

This is good, we all knew it was coming following the original injury reports. Might as well get the rehab process started.

Well at least that looks like it ended up being an ankle and not the knee I guess.

So they had that streak with grand slams last year. Are they working on on trying to get a record for no-no's in a week?

Dunning with only 4 innings of work on 71 pitches? Felt like he could have gone 5 at least

Given how many of our guys end up getting TJ, I'm good with them being stupid careful with pitch counts on potential prospects. Especially in a season when we're gonna suck.

Dunning is a "Tandem" SP. He and Hearn pair up for the game. It is looking like Dunning will Start and go twice through the order. Hearn will likely start the next inning, if he isn't needed during the previous inning.

4 IP is sufficient for this style of baseball. Ideally the two will combine for 7 IP and leave 2 IP for the BP.

Except that out 8th and 9th inning guys are dropping line flies.... LeClerc, Hernandez, Bush... dangerous job apparently.

Just watching via live stats (at kids baseball practice), but encouraging outing by Dunning tonight. Too bad Glasnow is matching him and then some

Dang. Very encouraging outing by Hearn even with that HR. Dunning too for that matter.

I'll never understand how there are still Major League parks with the bullpens in foul territory.

Who else is left with foul territory bullpens? I know SF moved theirs.

Oakland but it may as well be out of play.

No kidding. Their foul territory has zip codes. Hell, it may have its own Congressional district.

Is Gallo's balanced bat gonna be this season's "Rougie's been working really hard on his swing"?

Not watching the game tonight as I don't have cable but why was Guzman playing LF? The only position he had played before tonight was 1B.

I think it was a brilliant plan to get his no-hitting ass on the DL.

It was either this or run over him with the bullpen car. This seemed more realistic

Honestly why throw him a strike with our lineup composition at all? Especially if he's willing to take a walk. Who is going to make you pay for walking him?

I think this is the strategy. Gallo had 2 BBs tonight. Other than that, we had 3 hits the rest of the night. I agree with your assessment: Why pitch to him when no one behind him can move him along?

However, short of the opening series against KC and the home opener, our pitching has been pretty good.
