This team is going to struggle to see 0.500 on the season....

But I watched maybe 3 games last year and I'm back to my regular of having the game on every night at least in the background.

So it's good to have baseball I care about back.

And Gibson gave up all but 1 of his runs in that horrible first inning against the royals. Last 3 games.. 1 earned run in 21 innings.

Lowe, Solak, and Dunning. Gallo and Dahl have potential for extensions.

That inning doesn't look so bad right now if you look at what Gibson has done since then and the Royals are actually in first place in the AL Central.

I'm going to make my yearly post about this. I EFFINGNHATE WEST COAST GAMES

I hate them too. That said, at least baseball is realizing it's an issue and trying to pull starting times forward a bit. I can somewhat live with 8:30-8:40

Also seems like there are less commercials and games are going by quicker. Think we've had a few games under 3 hours

Makes zero sense that we play in a division with 3 west coast teams and only 1 team in our own time zone. Also would imagine it's annoying to the west coast fans to have games against us and Houston starting early

I'd say Lowe, Solak and Dahl need to prove themselves this year before considering an extension For Dunning, same thing except for him it would mostly be proving he can stay strong and healthy for a full season (even though they are taking it easy on his pitches/innings). For Gallo, he is a Boris guy so he'll either want to break the bank or test the market if we don't meet whatever Boris thinks he is worth. I like him overall and would like to keep him around, but I don't know that other teams will send us a boatload of prospects for him given his up and down nature. He needs a solid 2019-esque season to have any real trade value. I'd consider extending him for a reasonable price, but Boris is rarely reasonable.

I'd also put IKF and Arihara on the extension "watch" list. Something to consider if they can continue to establish themselves this season.

This team will need to step up and make a financial commitment to a few players sometime in the not to distant future. Future financial commitments are minimal at the moment, so they can't say we don't have the money.

Has it been defined what organizational decisions JD is making and what decisions Chris Young is making moving forward?

Couple of things. First, it would be the typical Rangers move to sign a HS SS over two top of the rotation-type college pitchers, who are ranked basically 1 & 1a in the upcoming draft. Unless there are injury concerns with either Leiter or Rocker, that should be the slam dunk pick over a position player out of HS. The thought takes me back to Benji Gil.

Second, I think thus far the Odor trade (didn't wind up being a release, although he was DFA'd) looks fine. Solak has been solid, and we at least got a couple of spare parts players in return for a guy who hasn't gotten in done for years, and isn't getting it done with the Yankees currently (.125 BA, .192 OBP, .442 OPS)

Which of these 2021 players do you believe play into the long-term plan for you and stack rank if you want:

C: Trevino (28-Serf2) - .319, 0HR, .327 OBP
1B: Lowe (25-Serf1) - .246, 4HR, .319 OBP
2B: Solak (26-Serf2) - .290, 3HR, .371 OBP
3B:
SS: IKF (26-Arb1. A4 control) - .203, 2HR, .247 OBP
LF: Dahl (27-Arb2. A4 control) - .217, 1HR, .226 OBP
OF: Aldos Garcia (28-Serf1) - .241, 2HR, .241 OBP
OF:
DH: Calhoun (26-Serf3)

SP: Dunning(26-Serf1)

Of note for 2022:
SP: Arihara (1 year remaining)
SP: Gibson (1 year remaining)
OF: Gallo (1 year remaining)

Futures:
3B: Jung
OF: White, Taveras

Current roster guys you mentioned above (minus the Futures):

In order in my humble opinion of chances of being a part of the long term future:

Gallo (unless used as trade bait in a blockbuster deal)
Dunning
Solak
IKF
Trevino
Arihara
Gibson
Lowe
Calhoun
Garcia

I think they all have a reasonable shot. The guy at the bottom of my list might actually be the most intriguing of the group. I have high hopes for Dunning. I really like Solak. IKF probably has a long term role because of his defense, and he's a guy that will likely hit around .250 or so. Trevino looks promising, but this season will be key for him. I like Calhoun, but he still has a lot to prove, and is limited defensively.

Personally IDGAF how good Lawlar might be. The Rangers haven't drafted a top of the rotation type pitcher for as far back as I remember, and there are two in this draft. JMO

I'm intrigued by Arihara, but i'm going to need to see a little bigger of a sample size before I consider him part of the core. I think of IKF as more of a super utility bench guy on a championship level team.

I saw Dillon Tate pitch, and I've seen both Rocker and Leiter pitch (in college). Tate wasn't nearly the prospect that Leiter & Rocker are. I remember reading at the time that there were a number of people who thought Tate at #4 was a reach.

We have the #2 pick in the draft. Every single draft analysis I've seen has Rocker and Leiter as 1 & 2, and Lawlar 3. He's absolutely a good prospect, but I also heard Jamie Newberg discuss on a podcast that some scouts don't think he's as good a prospect as Witt Jr., so I'm not sure where you're getting the A-Rod comparison stuff.

I simply don't see how you pass on either of those two pitchers, regardless of which is available at 2 (most likely it will be Leiter taken at #1). FWIW, Rocker has better stats at Vandy than David Price did. Leiter's stats are even better.

Lawlar has played at Jesuit, a private school in a weak baseball conference. He's been striking out a lot vs. arguably weak competition which has some scouts concerned. He's probably 4 years away from the majors, assuming he remains injury free and pans out as a prospect. Leiter and Rocker will likely both be in the majors next season, again barring injury.

This is a unique year because there are two (possibly 3) players who are regarded as can't miss prospects in the draft. Again, given the Rangers historical lack of pitching, in my mind you have to go pitcher.

So I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. However, one thing I'm sure you'll agree with me on.....given the Rangers recent draft history, whoever they choose, it will be the wrong player. :-)

You go Leiter or Rocker and don't look back. But the Rangers love to overthink the 1st round
Grapesoda2525
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Can never have too much pitching and Leiter is as close to a sure thing as you can get. His dad was a major leaguer!

They have to pick either leiter or rocker at #2 or Kip ***g really needs to go.
