I agree that you pay for past performance. That will not change with the Fielder types. Under your plan teams might get a couple of extra years of value out of their big contracts but they will still get paid for unproductive years. Guys in their 30's are going to be overpaid by desperate teams. I'm just saying that you would add to the number of players getting these big first time free agency contracts and many more of them won't deserve them. You and I will be footing the bill. Can you imagine Rougned Odor's contract in a competitive market?

I just don't feel all that enthused about Dunning looking forward. His velocity is less than impressive and he's not exactly a pinpoint precision pitcher

29 games out of first. Our worst finish was 43 behind Seattle in 2001. Don't see us beating that, but I see Woodward giving everything he's got to make a run at it.

I think he should have been in the majors two years ago so that we could see if he could hit. Instead we gave those at bats away to guys like Logan Forsythe, Todd Frazier, Derek Dietrich, Brock Holt, and Charlie Culberson. I just don't think he's ever going to get enough at bats to know what he had.
