The Others/Hostiles must have some connection to Hanso/Dharma because when Richard recruited Juliet he was supposedly representing the Mittelos company which is almost assuredly a branch of the Hanso Foundation because one of Hanso's main colleagues was named Mittelwerk.

We've been watching the Odyssey in my English classes (and I've been watching Heroes on my own time) and he was the first person that came to mind when I saw the picture.
I can't believe I forgot he was on Heroes.

I think it's more likely that they have nothing to do with Dharma and started up the recruitment of new people all on their own.
So was Kelvin ACTUALLY part of Dharma? It seems like the Others would have taken over by then.
that's a good question....although, I suppose he could have been in the hatch at the time of takeover and really knew nothing about it. Perhaps the others/hostiles left some evidence of the dead Dharma people which led him to believe a "sickness" killed them all and so he stayed.
It's probably more likely he was an other, since he knew the "sickness" was not a threat once Desmond showed up.

In the scenes with Ben in the van, they showed him check his watch and it was an indiglo watch. Indiglo has been around since 1992 according to wiki... Do we have any other time clue as to when the takeover happened?
I hadn't made the connection but the last episode is "Through the Looking Glass."
Couple that with the white rabbit leading Ben to a new world and they're going all out with the Alice references.

The "help me" voice from the shack sounds just like Clancy Brown. The guy that ran the hatch and was killed by Desmond.
One thing is for sure: The creators of LOST owe the inventor of Tivo a ton of thanks for adding another element to their show.

So we still don't know what was going on with the Pearl station where Kelvin/Desmond had to type in the numbers, only that the hostiles did not take it over with the rest of the camp.
Did the cannister that Ben opened have a Dharma logo on it? That would mean either the hostiles are connected to Dharma, or Ben stole the toxin and gave it to the hostiles, along with the gas masks.
Also, the Hostiles have got to have some funding somewhere. Just reviewing how they recruited Julliet means they had to have some $$ to set up the building/office she initially started at.

Ben seems to age normally. I think Juliet said something about having been on the island for ~ 3 years. Now we're at 2001. Give the hostiles a few years to get things set up (and the fact that Ben looks younger, but not that much) and I'd say late, late '90s. Just my guess though.

The red Kharmann Ghia that Horace Goodspeed was driving in the beginning of the episode was a 1969 or older model. (I used to own one, VW changed the turn signals in 1970.) This gives us at least the latest year been could have been born. Barring a production goof, of course.

Not sure where I read it, but Alvar Hanso pretty much guaranteed food and supplies would be delivered "in perpetuity."
how did ben get to become "leader" of the hostiles when he was not an original? do the hostiles believe that ben was born on the island - what does that change since he wasn't?
Random things:
1) Don't drink and drive. Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros do, and Ana-Lucia and Libby are murdered. Roger does, and Ben murders him too. The guy from Extreme Makeover better hope this is a Lost policy and not an ABC policy, because they might have to off him too.
2) The woman playing Ben's mother was his wife in real life, which really adds to the creepiness. I'm also shocked anyone would marry him, because no one can play a psycho that well. I'm convinced he's crazy in real life.
3) The ring of gunpowder looking stuff was probably volcanic ash, because during the science lesson they were discussing volcanoes. Things like that on Lost are rarely an accident.

I got a "Physcho" feeling. Especially when Ben was talking to an empty chair, ala Norman Bates.
And Ben's dead mom standing outside his window was creepy. Clearly the Hostiles saw something special in Ben to recruit him. Or they were using him to complete the Purge. Ben rose quickly through the ranks of the Hostiles, but his power is eroding. Locke embarrassed him at the base camp. And no one stopped the Locke beat down of Patchy when Ben ordered them to.
I also believe we saw about 10% of Dharma last night. They may have "experimented" on the natives and disrespected the island.
I looked at this for awhile last night on my tv and I really think the profile of Jacob looks a lot like Locke

Yeah, the latern falls on the floor and catches fire. I was all like "WTF" when Ben just calmly walked out and hung the latern back up.
