I think Locke being in the coffin is a good thought was some have pointed out. Locke lived in the LA area before flight 815 so it would make sense that he would die in LA where Jack's at. Jack's finally realizing Locke was right about not leaving the island.
I think it would be cool if next season centers about them getting off the island and Jacob, the next season about them not being okay back in the real world and we catch up to Jack's fast forward, and the final season has them returning to the island to live as they all realize that is their "destiny". I think this is the first of many flash forwards where we see problems. Although, Kate didn't act like she missed the island so we'll see. I'm just shooting from the hip here...

The car that she got out of at the end... was that newer than an '04? That could answer the question if the newspaper is unclear.

I'm pretty sure they crashed in 2004 not 2001.
Yeah they crashed in 2004, a couple months before the Red Sox won the World Series.
I would also like to point out that Rumours (next to the MSC) had a flat panel TV on the wall back in 2001.
In the eipsode where Jack was in the hatch underwater Ben rolled out a TV. The Red Sox won the World Series and George Bush was just re-elected. They have only been on the island for a number of months at most.
I also think it was in the future because I can't imagine Jack being allowed to practice medicine again after that meltdown and drug use.
Surely the show will not try to show them getting back into society. ABC has to remember how bad The Nine tanked.
Though, on the flipside, they really loved The Nine, so I could see them going that route again.

I was a fan of Jack's beard.
I was sad to see Charlie go, I had always been kind of rooting for him.
I'm still pretty shocked from all the questions they answered. Oh whats that now? They didn't really answer anything? Oh ok, I'll just go stand over there...

Don't think this has been mentioned regarding Jack's dad but in the Flash Forward: when Jack goes to refill his prescription and is denied, he says that it's not his signature but his father's and when she tries to call to verify that he says something to the effect of "Don't bother, there's no one there."

Also, we rewatched last weeks episode and I picked up on something else about Richard. I don't think anybody else has mentioned it but toward the beginning of the episode, Ben says to Richard, "you do remember what birthdays are, don't you?" That makes me think that him not looking like he's aged isn't a mistake, that it will be explained at some point...another mystery of the island.
i don't know what i think about tonight's ending but there's still smoke monsters, jacob, walt and such to tidy up...and that mikhail is one tough s.o.b...i think he played the black knight in search for the holy grail

Rehashing the van did not in any way redeem the crappiness of the story around it. In fact I thought it was a pretty bush league attempt to interject irony. Now considering that it has been rehashed on 2 occasions, I might nudge the episode ahead of the thai hooker episode, but it's still very close to the bottom!
