who can hear spiders in a jungle? honestly. i don't care if there are 100 of them coming. you're not going to be able to discern a spider step.

i did wonder at one point why no color had drained from their faces.

quote:
I would take this as a reference to the diamonds, not them being alive. There is no air under all that dirt...and that dirt was ridiculously heavy. How long can you stay alive down there and not suffocate? Maybe a few minutes. Said minutes elapsed as they were covering them up. If they are alive, I will not forgive the show...and I tend to be a Lost apologist when everyone else is overcriticizing it.

i'm with you.

Dry sand = 100 lbs per cubic foot

Grave size = 6x4x3 = 72 cubic ft (approx)

That's 7200 lbs of sand sitting on top of Nikki & Paulo. Possible escape scenarios:

1. Paulo has the radio and uses it to call for help.
2. Vincent becomes super dog and digs them out.
3. The tide rises real fast and washes them free.

Uhhhhh...never mind. They are doomed.

This is like the ****ing football board. One week the show gets praises for it's best episode ever and the next people are on here bashing it for how far it's fallen.

Except that no one is (yet) blaming Fran for Lost being kinda inconsistent in its quality.

When that happens -- and I have no doubt that it will -- both TexAgs and Lost will have jumped the Germans bombing Pearl Harbor.

that was a weak episode, as lost goes.

Did anybody catch the part at the beginning when Old Dude was trying to convince her to stay on his show, rather than die, because he said he could bring her back? She declined and said something to the effect of she's just a guest star, and that she was meant to be killed off. I thought that was funny. And now that I think about it, it could have been a message that, yeah, Nikki and Paolo are dead, and they aren't coming back.

Why does everyone expect this show to follow all the laws of nature? THIS IS A SCIENCE FICTION SHOW! Watch it and enjoy the story and characters and dont look at it as real life.

I enjoyed the episode. It brought back a few characters that are no longer alive and gave the show a chance to catch it's breath before the final few episodes.

It gave us another perspective of the crash and the different needs of some of the survivors; Nikki and Polao were more concerned about their 8 million in diamonds than the plane, the hatch, or the others. As soon as they crashed on the island all Nikki was worried about was her bag.

The ending made my skin crawl...

Damon Lindelof on why Nikki and Paulo died...

quote:
"People hated them before they even opened their mouths to say anything significant because it felt like they were crashing the party," exec producer Damon Lindelof acknowledges of the characters who were abruptly introduced last fall. "The easiest thing would have been to just write them out and forget they ever happened, like the cougar on [Season 2] of 24. But that's not Lost. We should at least own up to it."

And this is one of the reasons I love Lost. The self-references last night, mainly through Sawyer, were great.

according to IMDB, the actor was in Love Actually.

I still think they should have had them just be dead b/c of poisonous spiders, and not only paralyzed and now killed by being buried alive.

I thought the burying alive was great. First time in a while that I've been truly surprised by the show. And when Nikki opened her eyes just as Sawyer started shoveling sand on the two of them, I was totally creeped out.

I know some people thought this episode was a waste, but I thought it was good. We got rid of a couple of characters we didn't like and got a fairly decent explanation as to why no one really knew them and it helped reset the timeline of how long they've actually been on the island. To us it seems like they've been there for years, but in LOST time, it's just been 3 months.

Are people really complaining about it being realistic?
Think back to the very first episodes. Do you really think the pilot getting yanked out of the cockpit by the "monster" was realistic? Don't act like this is something new. Just sit back, go with the flow and enjoy it.

This was nothing more than the writers looking for an emmy by writing a greek tragedy. It was gay, and ultimately did not make a lot of sense. Seriously, why introduce the concept that they discovered the pearl station and didn't tell anyone. What possible motive would he have to not tell anyone? Other than the fact that Paulo looks like he may be slightly retarded, if these characters are really killed off without explaining this then that is just crap. The writers specifically introduced these characters to the show and then dropped them into a few key scenes for no other reason than that they could be referenced later in what they no doubt thought was their masterpiece screenplay... nothing but self indulgence on their part. Weak. I hate this episode the more I think about it.

Everybody *****es when nikki and paulo show up. The writers decided to give you what you want and get rid of them, and they do it in an entertaining and twisted way. Then everybody *****es about that.

It has been noted that Stephen King is a big fan of the show. King wrote a short story called, "Autospy Room Four" which is somewhat similar to this Lost episode. In King's story, the victim is bitten by a snake on the golf course and arrives at the hospital DOA. Only the guy knows he is alive, but can't speak or move. So, the story is about his battle to try and save himself before the Y incision or skull saw.

I wonder if Paulo and Nikki went through the same thing? Lying in their graves, screaming out in their minds, "I'm alive!" Still the shovel loads of sand fall.

FWIW...I think Nikki mumbled, "Paulo is alive" right before she slipped into her 'coma.'

Creepy...

Interesting theory of the week:

Mr. LaShade, the good guy of Exposé, is really Cobra, the bad guy of Exposé, and we learn this in season four. Is one of our "good guys" being revealed as head Other bad guy Jacob in Lost's season four?

20ag07,

I just love how often one of your posts is a generalization (everyone said this back then, now they did this and everyone says this now) just so you can complain about other people complaining. It's tired.

And from what I gather, the killing off of the pair (and the method) is the only thing most enjoyed about the episode. Most of the complaints I've read are that the episode as a whole was pretty much pointless filler.

After a great first couple of seasons, the new broken season really dragged on and viewers are becoming frustrated and starting to drop off. The two preceding episodes were very good, so a lot of people got excited again, but after this one are concerned that it will drop back into a rut.

That's what happens when producers and networks co-opt a show and try to stretch it beyond the writer's designed storyline.

I liked the episode.

And I wasn't really bothered by Nikki and Paolo being side characters.

Of course, I usually don't let television bother my real life as some of you seem to do.

I loved how they killed them. It was just one of those "terrible way to die" kind of things. Of all the way to die, this would have to be close to the bottom of the list. And really, the worst part is they saw it coming and couldn't do anything about it.

I thought it was a good episode. I liked the end scene when her eyes opened right as the sand hit her face. Sawyer and Hugo were shoveling fast, and it made you want to stop them.

I liked the insight into Ben when he talked about preying on that in which people are emotionally involved in.

I found it hard to believe that Nikki would be interested in the bag of diamonds so soon after a traumatic plane crash like that. But, they did a really cool job of inserting them into the crash scene. That has got to be one of the best all time pilots for a show.

I liked that Charlie came clean with Sun. I'm sure that will arise in a later episode. That science teacher was a huge dork.

Yep that was great. Then when they are in the airport and see Boone and Shannon. Nicki says she doesn't want to end up like them. But they do, dead.

I thought this was a well-done episode. Yes, it was filler but it was great. Then take in the quote from one of the exec producers saying they owned up to bringing them on and I think it makes the episode even better.

This is great. It shows that they are listening to the fans, and responding in kind.

I liked the episode. I don't really care if island mysteries are revealed every show or not. I also enjoyed the episode with the VW bus as well.

My wife and I caught both of these foreshadowing dialogues and thought they were great. It is these types of small details that make Lost great. It was one of the best "filler" episodes. I think we have been shown however that there really are no episodes that are completely filler.
