The show is definitely drifting.

What made season 1 so great was not the island, or the hatch, or the monster, or the Others, etc...

What made it so great was the CHARACTERS.

My two favorite moments from this entire series :

Hurley at the caves listening to Willie Nelson.

The montage of everyone getting on the plane.

This wasn't because of what these people had been through, it was because of who they are.

Neither one had anything to do with advancing the plot.

I like that there's some more exposition now but it seems to be coming at the cost of the characters. I DO think it's still a great show, but they need to change it in order to return to the spectacular show it was in season one.

To beat a dead horse...

I was disappointed with last night's episode just because it had been hyped as being "it." It is also a little discouraging because Cuse and Damon promised a few answers in this fall season and we really didn't get much. For each question that is answered, another five questions are posed. Last night's flashback went nowhere and we already knew that side of Kate. Most flashbacks directly tie into some form of the plot to the current show, and aside from the estranged Sawyer love angle (didn't anyone else think the sex scene was a little too much) there really was no point to it. The frustration sits in now until February.

This may be a good time to go back and watch season 1 and remember the show in its greatness.

They can't make Sawyer too nice. They need to remind us soon that he is indeed still a conman and *******. I'd like to see him tell Kate he just wanted in her pants and doesn't really give a crap about her.

i haven't seen it yet, but has anyone talked about who was on the intercom telling jack to try the door? It was a woman's voice, but didn't sound like Juliet.....perhaps Alex?

Also, Alex wanting to see Ben and Ben asking if Alex asked about him....there is either a real relationship there or Alex thinks she can reason with Ben, but Ben doesn't care about her and just said that for Jack to overhear....further mind games.

I think the previews show both Kate and Sawyer running...and maybe even Kate elbowing/knocking out the guy who currently has a gun held to her. And even if they are on another Island...they can still run and try to hide...or (gasp) try swimming.

"Sheperd wasn't on Jacob's list"

Who is Jacob? The eyepatch guy?

Michael was given a list with Jack's name on it from Benry; did Benry add Jack's name?

I actually got hooked on Lost because of the intensity, the bizarreness and the depth of detail and questions. It has since lost most of that (no pun intended) and what I've found is a soap opera whose characters - for the most part - could all die and I wouldn't care. The only important people left in this thing - as I see it - are Sayid, Locke and Kate. Jack was teetering right on that edge of worthlessness until tonight. I've thought since the beginning of Season 2 that he has slowly been losing his grip on reality. Tonight he showed that maybe he's not just a hot-headed male with a savior complex. Maybe he does have a clear thought in there. Regardless, the back-stories early on were awesome because they answered questions about why people were on the plane, what they did in their past lives, what kind of people they are, etc. It seems that the longer this thing goes on, the more the back-stories are simply there to complement whatever's happening on the island... not to give you anything of significance.

The Shield is a far better show than Lost can ever dream of being. I am so thankful that I began watching The Shield this summer.

I agree on Jack's development finally being good again. He finally found his gnads.

Kate, after drugging her husband, will trade in her Oceanic tickets to Costa rica, for an Oceanic ticket to Australia. BINGO backstory.

I noticed that those were Oceanic tickets, but I kind of assumed she couldn't travel outside the U.S., due to the lack of a passport, which is why she drugged her husband and ran.

you're dead right, Log. It will be interesting to see how she ever got to Australia. It will also be interesting to see if Kate has it in her to swim 2 miles.

You are assuming that Ben wasn't just conning Sawyer into thinking they were on a different island.

I think they are on the same island... just can't imagine them putting part of the Dharma Initiative on a separate island.

Of course, the "Elizabeth" could come into play if they are on a different island.

Due to curvature in the space-time continuum around the island, they were actually looking at the other side of the island they were standing on.

I think its two islands which is why the boat was so important to Ben. Plus the map in the hatch indicates there are two islands.

Good thing Sawyer learned to sail in season two, he's gonna need it this spring!

They took "the sub" to hijack the boat. And there are two islands on Rosseau's map. It's one hell of a con to make an island appear on the horizon.

No, I didn't mean there aren't two islands... meant they are all one island... the other island is there, just not being used.

If they have a "sub", how big it could it be.

They have alot of people at the zoo station including younger kids (Alex and her boyfriend).

That's a lot of people to ferry back and forth along with supplies (assuming that the supplies aren't being dropped in).

Why was Kate forced to wear a dress? (They wanted Sawyer to be turned on) Why did the others not do anything when they knew Kate could get out of her cage? (They wanted Kate to break out of her cage and into Sawyer's) Why was the door to Jack's room left unlocked? (They wanted Jack to see the video of Kate/Sawyer)

I think the entire captivity was structured to get Kate and Sawyer to hook up, and to have Jack find out about it…which is why I think they separated Jack from Kate and Sawyer in the first place. Ben thought this would make Jack desperate to get off the island and in turn agree to perform the surgery. I thought Ben's master plan was going to work until Jack botched the surgery.

Anyone else see it this way?

It's not a submarine; it's a blue hovercraft.

Was just thinking about this. In the first episode of the third season, we see the flashback to when the plane originally crashed.

Benry tells the guys to RUN to the crash site, and he doesn't send anyone with them. I figured it was two different islands, but if there are two separate islands then I think you could argue that the opening sequence to this season was a mistake, as obviously they couldn't just RUN to the crash site and Benry doesn't send anyone else with the guys to bring a boat back after dropping them off.

But since the season opener, we have not seen that "village" that they lived in. It is still possible they are on two different island; they are just at a different location, a "prison."

we haven't seen the living quarters of the Others since that episode, either.

The Others don't shave either.

The prison idea makes sense. It's possible there are just a small group on the prison side. Ben probably goes back and forth.

The suburb area they showed in episode is probably on the same island that the main characters are on.

It might even be possible that most of the people on the main island (the others) don't even know about the prison.

Correct who is to say they weren't on the main island when the plane crashed and then MOVED in the mean time to the OTHER ISLAND

It's also possible that while there is in fact a second island, nothing is on it, and they never left the main island. Ben could very well have showed that to Sawyer as a con, which was the whole point of that episode. He just wanted to feel helpless.
