I was thinking maybe Juliet is double-crossing Ben and Jack knows this, and that's what they were talking about when Juliet said "We should tell her" and Jack said "not yet." I don't know why they wouldn't want to tell everyone that since the camp is so suspicious of Juliet anyway.
Doesn't Sayid know the "communuications" are down from the computer in Patchy's hatch? Or did Locke not tell anyone that part? I can't remember. Why would Sayid try to fix the phone if there was reason to believe it would never work? He made the comment that it was advanced so maybe it will work, and Jack and Juliet don't realize exactly what the device is, so I guess their comment might have been about the communications....
Kate gets on my nerves the way she was using Sawyer because she was jealous of Juliet. It will be funny if she ends up pregnant.

This was our (wife & I) thought too. Juliet wanted to tell Kate that she was double-crossing Ben.
As for the plane crash, while it doesn't seem reasonable for people to search 4 miles down, the helicopter chick did say that they sent down robots and accounted for all the bodies. Saying that makes it much more feasible that the Others covered up the crash so no one would look for the real plane. It's being 4 miles down, bodies in the plane means no one else would go after it.
As for the getting Locke's dad, it doesn't seem that far-fetched (given everything else) that they could find him and cause him to have a wreck only to be there to "save" him as well. If he were to die in the crash, I'm sure Ben could have used that as well (for all the times Locke wished his dad was dead).
Great episode.
As for the clips for next week, someone else mentioned Roger Workman from the bus. They also show someone in a white dress standing by themselves, a makeshift doll (wood carving with eyes and mouth drawn on), multiple VW vans with lots of crates, someone with a gas mask on, and what looks to me like Richard with longer hair and facial hair too. Who the hell knows what all that will end up meaning to us.
Does the show really want to put itself into a situation where 2 of the 4 remaining female characters (Sun, Kate, Claire, Juliet) are pregnant?
20ag07 - I hear ya and I agree to an extent, but why else would they continuously show Kate and Sawyer having sex? I would be very surprised if Kate does not end up being pregnant. The whole pregnancy arc has been a major part of the 2nd half of this season.

I wonder if Juliet knows why nobody can get off the island and shared that with Jack and they were choosing not to tell Kate that the Helicopter lady offered no hope.

An addition/amendment to my Jack/Juliet theory.
What if Jack didn't want Juliet to tell Kate about the Ben doublecross because Jack is actually working with Ben and doesn't want anyone to know Juliet is actually a good guy now. Jack is now bad or looking after his own interests. That would play into the Cobra/Evil Twin type stuff, Jack being bad and turning on the Losties + Juliet. Then you have the complete 180 of Sawyer now being the good guy that tugs at your heart.
These guys are good. As my wife said, if this was a book series she'd read it over and over.

i don't understand why the anamoly would affect communication devices coming onto the island afterwards....

Sayid mentions that he hasn't seen communications equipment that sophisticated before. Now maybe he has been out of the loop for a while on technology advances after leaving the military, or maybe more time has passed in the outside world.

I am out on this show if Gage shows up and takes Roy to Rampart to get fixed up by Julie.
I've never said this after an episode, even if it was slow, but I don't think I like the direction the show is going. We'll see. I have hope.
My vote goes for Desmond.

Interesting theory, but wouldn't the search & rescue chick wonder about Desmond's age if it passed very quickly? Also, knowing about Oceanic 815 would imply it's not too long after the crash. Aside from the 9/11 flights, I don't remember the names & numbers of flights years after the event.
I think the latter part of your idea is probably most correct. Or it could just be that Penny is sparing no expense in an attempt to find Desmond. Top of the line everything.

He left the miliary as a communications officer/torturer over 10 years ago.
Of course he wouldn't be familiar with a top of the line satelite phone.

what if it was associated with the cable on the beach?
Sayid had been out of the Iraqi military for a while, but just prior to getting on Flight 815 he had been working undercover with the CIA to infiltrate a terrorist group. So it is at least concievable that he would have been exposed to some of the latest communications equipment. Its just a theory though.
