Good episode. Not nearly as good as the Desmond episode, but it's pretty good considering where the show has been floating so far this season.
I wonder what the Russian translates into (on the notes and in the conversation with Klugh.)

Finally a good episode. Kind of sad to see the new station come and go in one episode, could have been some interesting plot lines around that place.
They keep a hatch around for an entire season, everybody complains. They blow it up after one episode, everybody complains.

Clearly, the magic number is between 5-10 episodes per hatch with the optimal number depending on the relative importance of the function of the hatch and the passengers involved in such function. Anything outside this range is a sham. Unless the hatch contains a physical item from a backstory, in which case the range is extended by 1 episode per item.

About f'n time! Good show last night. No nicknmaes for a week is gonna be great. I wonder how many episodes a week on the island is?
Locke is 2/2 on hatch demolition. That dude needs to be perma-banned from ever touching a computer.
However, since Locke hit 77 and reported a hostile infiltration, does this mean the Dharma cavalry is on the way?
And, if Dharma is dead like the Ruskie said, why do the food drops continue?

In my humble opinion, the next great twist of the show.....

If the Others are the "hostiles" and no one ever communicated back that they took over, the drops continue.
It's odd, because the Dharma folks wanted the communication station blown up if the "hostiles" took over. They knew whatever they were working on could have consequences and if the worst case scenario happened, they didn't want the "hostiles" to be able to communicate outside of the island if they took over.
This could go a million ways and it's great. Dharma knowing about "hostiles" on the island raises some new thoughts about genetic testing/development. Are the Others "hostiles" or old Dharma? Either way, what happened to the other group?
Very, very good episode I thought.

Well I just started watching Lost from the beginning- only about halfway through the 1st season- so I didn't read any of this thread. But I just wanted to say that Terry O'Quinn (John Lock) is one hell of an actor. Really good. Also, I really like the show so far, but I'm not yet blown away. Seems like every other episode is kinda boring. Does it pick up?

Kelvin refers to the hostiles well before the crash.
The video from the flame refers to THE hostiles, not just hostiles in general and it was obviously made decades before the crash.

If you don't like season 1, stop and don't watch any more. The show doesn't get any better. I would say finish 1 off though, I think it ramps up as the season goes on.
I thought it was crazy that he'd rather play chess than sit there and talk to the guy, but understood. It was a challenge, game, something new, how could a geek like him resist? The little stories of his past make me believe he likes to overcome any challenge, no matter how small.

Don't get me wrong- I really like it and I'll be watching the whole thing. It's just the pilot episodes were jam packed, and a few episodes since have dragged a bit. I'm sure much of it is just setting up back stories and such.
I have to agree with Sensei on this one. Locke needs to go. So here's how: they Explain why he was in a wheelchair, then Call in the Polar Bears to eat him. The end. 1 Episode in the Can, I should help write this show.
So why exactly should Locke go?

Hell yes! They are on an island, the sheep stay home on the beach and stay away from trouble. But the wolves, Sawyer, Kate, Sayid, go out in search of Jack, Dharma and move the story along action-wise. Locke, is natural selection waiting to happen, you keep allowing the weakest link to go out in the jungle, something eventually is gonna eat him.
You're underestimating Locke.
Maybe SuperDave, but he's played the role of the guy who screws up alot recently, and I think they are gonna kill him off.
