do the hostiles believe that ben was born on the island - what does that change since he wasn't?

I think they must believe that. It's odd because you'd think that Ben would have let slip that he wasn't back when he was a kid.

It would however explain why people think Locke is something much more special given what he's become on the island.

What was going on when Ben was a kid in the classroom watching the volcano demonstration and everything started to shake? They had to hide like it was a drill, and the teacher and others had guns. The young girl explains it is the Hostiles. At night, Ben overhears Roger arguing with Horace. Roger says "while driving back from the plane we drive into the middle of a gun fight!" Horace tries to explain that they are having a little trouble with the natives.

Wasn't everything shaking like it used to do at the hatch, or am I making that up? How would the connection with the Hostiles explaing THAT?

I thought he said that they were driving back from the flame. Isn't that one of the other hatches?

They did say "the Flame."

That episode introduced Roger Work Man = Ben's dad = Uncle Rico = Lazlo Hollyfeld = AWESOME

The writers must love old VW's:
Locke drove an old bug
Roger Linus had the bus
Horace Goodspeed had a ghia

Has anyone been able to look at the "natives" to see if they are still in the campground and if they have aged at all?

let's not forget the ben is a classic manipulator. he's admitted as such and he certainly has shown his ability to get people to believe all types of things, while holding them just far away from the truth. I have no doubt, he's used these abilities to keep the "Others" under his power. and it's now eroding.

What about young Ben turning off the sonic fence? Did I miss how he got those numbers to turn it off (54439)?

My random ramblings:

-Locke 2, Mikhail 0.

-From Lostipedia "Magnus Hanso, grandfather of Alvar, captain of the slave ship Black Rock that crashed on the Island"

Maybe the others are descendants of the Black Rock survivors, or maybe they have been on the island long before then.

-Anyone wonder if the others let Ben think he's in charge, and there's stuff going on that he has no idea about?

FWIW, Terry O'Quinn(Locke) recently sold his house in Hawaii, but claimed its because he prefers the freedom of living in hotels...

Can someone remind me when was the first time Jacob was mentioned as being involved with the others? My guess is that if the others all know about/believe in Jacob...somehow Ben managed to use Jacob to his advantage to take over the others.

Ben's dad said they were hiking. I assume that is true, but its possible we learn more about that later. The real question is why were they hiking while she was 7 months pregnant?

Go to his lostpedia page (http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Jacob and you'll see all the times he's been mentioned. It looks like the first time he was mentioned it was talking about "Jacob's list" and Jack not being on it.

Horace Goodspeed = Percy Wetmore (from the Green Mile)

Apparently, Horace must have done Ben a solid. Ben lovingly closed his eyelids after the nerve gas attack that killed all the Dharma village people.

Horace Goodspeed is an anagram of A CODED HERPES GOO. I wonder if that has anything to do with Jacob...

I think Ben's friend Annie will end up playing a pretty important role. We don't even know for sure whether she died in the Purge or not, and she was obviously pretty special to Ben because he kept her birthday present for all those years.

I think Locke will heal. Remember when his dad bit him? The next day, Locke looked down and it was healed.

So, Locke will get out and there will be some serious smackdown.

So, how can Locke help Jacob?

Lastly, Ben's parents now both died on Ben's b-day/

Ah, good point! They have foreshadowed Locke surviving this gunshot wound.

That gives me hope that he's not dead. I forgot about that scene.

I completely agree.

Actually, I think his dad bit him "8 Days Ago" and he was healed by "3 Days Ago". But still, the island healed that faster than normal, and I agree that the island will heal Locke's gunshot wound.

Ben knows better than anyone how well Locke can heal on the island. If Ben were really trying to kill Locke, then why not put a couple extra bullets in him?

Is shooting but not killing Locke just another part of the manipulation?

I've got a question....and maybe this will be answered later in the show....

But Ben is brought to the island as a child, hates the group of people he's with (who are doing experiments for the Darma initiative), and eventually leaves them for the natives.

So when did he and the natives start doing experiments on pregnant women? How does the rescue point (where walt and michael sailed off to) come into play? Where did the sub come from? etc etc etc.

It seems like there is a big hole in the plot...and I'm curious if they're going to fill it.

I bet Ben warned Annie before the Purge. She went and hid out. Later, Ben knocks her up, only to have the pregnancy kill her. Ben has now lost two women in his life due to pregnancy complications. Hence, his obsession over fertility on the island.

So we still don't know what was going on with the Pearl station where Kelvin/Desmond had to type in the numbers, only that the hostiles did not take it over with the rest of the camp.

That's the Swan station, and we don't know that. Kelvin might be one of them.
