On the tape to Ben, Juliet says that Kwon is pregnant. She also says she is going to get a sample from _______. I've listened to it a few times, but I just can't understand what she says....Austin? Any help?

I haven't rewatched the episode yet, but wasn't there a roadsign visible in the side of the shot when Ben's Parents are looking for help that indicated that they were near Portland? This would indicate to me that the Dharma Initiative was somehow based in Portland, as they met the higher-up on the road and seemed to have stayed in contact for a number of years.
Wasn't the Other's medical company also based in Portland?
It just seems like a huge coincidence that the Others would set up shot on the mainland where the Dharma Initiative was also based, if the Others (or Hostiles) were island natives.
Could this possibly indicate that the Hostiles were a splinter group from the Dharma folks? Perhaps they were cast out of the compound or left for having moral differences or whatever.
Perhaps this has already been discussed, but I thought that it was interesting.

Haha, maybe the "Island(s)" aren't really islands at all. Maybe the whole thing's a facade (like the 2nd island) and they're all in Portland being experimented upon and watched ala "Truman Show". Anyone watched "The Village" lately (horrible movie, btw)?

No, I was asking if he was asking where Dharma got the sub.
ok, so is richard a part of the dharma group now?? b/c when juilette was being recruited, he showed up after her ex was killed & she had to go or said she was going to portland to work on her research.

Another great thing about Lost: last week we were all looking forward to a giant show down when Sawyer plays the Juliet tape for the losties. Then when it happens, no biggie. Just a drop in the hat compared to the rest of the crazy crap going on. Gotta love the misdirection.

Annie was dead before the Purge. Roger raped and impregnated her, she died as a result. This lead to Ben's killing of his father as it was an immense pain that pushed him over the top.

When he meets Richard in the jungle as a kid, didn't Richard ask him if his mother died on the island, and he said no, she died when he was born? I could be wrong as I don't have a DVR to go back and look at it.

I suppose it can be assumed that if dharma was there to study an island with "magical" properties, that the current inhabitants (the orignal others) all might be supernatural freaks. Which would explain Richard not aging. (also, Richard sort of looks like a pirate with dark eye makeup......blackrock)
But if they all had supernatural powers, why would they pick Ben as their leader? Whats so special about him?

I doubt that the Others are all supernatural freaks. They've been killed & beaten up same as anyone else on the island. There DOES seem to be a psychic force that some on the island are able to tap into. (Walt, Ben, Locke, Desmond)
My guess is the "Others" that Ben joined are outcasts and/or runaways from the original Dharma; or that they were castaways same as our Losties. Why else would Richard (a Dr.) be hanging out on the Island living in the jungle?
Richard knew something when Ben said he saw his dead mother. I think Richard saw the potential in Ben & groomed him to become the leader of the Others because of his telepathic ability.

Nice theories. I agree that the others could be cast-outs. The thing that bothers me the most and tells me there is something much more is Richard not aging in 30+ years.

My brother and I were discussing the show today, and he posed what I think is an interesting theory: Rousseau is Annie, her "scientific expedition" story is made up after years of isolation and a psychotic break, and Alex really is Ben's daughter.

Locke & Rousseau are meant to reflect the real life historical figures of Locke and Rousseau, but I cannot figure out where Hobbs comes in. The island is exactly what Hobbs' view of nature was, so maybe that is the understood, yet unspoken character.

The island is either Purgatory or part of a Pacific Bermuda Triangle. This would explain the magnetic phenomenan (sp?) as well as all the freaky deaky stuff going on.
