Could the others be off the pirate ship? I mean now we know they prob were not part of the Darma initiative.
I think the island is the fountain of youth, had it pegged as purgatory but the writers and producers have denied this time and time again. I think thats too religious for them, and you know how Hollywood feels about most Christians.

There have been numerous allsions to Christianity in the show. There was even an episode called "The 23rd Psalm."
Everyone is alive. Even if the writers started out with the intent to make the island purgatory, that would just be stupid now because it was one of the biggest theories.
I think we can say for certainty that the Losties are alive.

Well I liked the purgetory theory. It still may be viable however, with the parachuted in woman who said they found the plane in the ocean with all dead on board. The thing is, the writers can take the show in many different directions. Can be like a Total Recall (virtual reality), Matrix type etc etc etc.
Im glad the show has gotten better towards the end of the year. Man, the fall espisodes were brutal, thank god for TIVO.

One thing i couldnt get over is how the Others knew so much about all of the crash victims. I mean how did the Others have in their file that Sawyer killed a guy. That isnt something you could just look up in police files.
Remember when that black cloud monster (forgot the name) killed Mr. Eco......inside the cloud you could see flashes from his life. Maybe somehow this thing can scan your mind. There certainly are many implications of telepathy or extra sensory perception going on here.
As far as the eventual outcome of the plot....i think the writers are screwed. The religious path will not work out well. If the island did end up being purgatory or hell, i would be super pissed. The other route is a sci-fi route. While that would be acceptable to my liking, i think a majority of viewers dont have much of an affinity for that type of thing. In my opinion, the whole truman show theory seems like their best bet. Or, they could wow us all and come up with something extraordinary. I vote for that!

How do you know that? They could have solved the murder just a few days after it happened.
Of course the directors will say it isn't Purgatory!
Half of the viewing audience that is not christian/catholic will stop watching immediately.
The other half will tune in to see where the plot goes, but the numbers will dwindle. Half of the lore of Lost is not knowing what the hell is going on and the directors loving every million dollar moment of it.

I have stopped trying to figure out the show. Everytime that I think I have it figured out they throw another wrinkle in there. I have enjoyed this season more than most due to getting to know the Other's better, I am glad that I get 3 more seasons.

You know, one thing that's bothered me from a long time ago (and maybe we should just start a "things that bother me about Lost" thread) is the Swan hatch. Kinda dumb how Locke and Boone spent SO LONG trying to open it and... oh there was a main door around the corner this whole time? That woulda been a lot easier to open.
And I'm still puzzled that everyone inside when it blew were somehow perfectly fine and just laying on the ground. Though, they might be able to explain that at some point.
And can they not go into the hatch at all now? There was a lot of great crap in there, why don't they dig some of it out?
