Day three of Aggie Classic proved to be no match for No. 7 Texas A&M softball as the Aggies took both ends of a Saturday doubleheader against Abilene Christian and Villanova at Davis Diamond with back-to-back shutouts.

In the first game, the Ags defeated ACU 1-0 before run-ruling Villanova in five innings, 8-0.

In Game 1, both Abilene Christian and A&M struggled offensively, and it remained scoreless until the fourth.

Freshman KK Dement’s double down the left-field line was only A&M’s second hit of the day. Following that, fellow freshman Frankie Vrazel singled to left center to bring Dement home.

Freshman right-hander Sydney Lessentine continued to hold Villanova’s offense at a standstill to maintain the lead.

“I thought Lessentine did a heck of a job. It’s nice to see her come out and pound the zone, spin the ball in and out, good changeup. I’m proud of her.”
- Texas A&M head coach Trisha Ford

“I thought Lessentine did a heck of a job,” A&M head coach Trisha Ford said postgame, “It’s nice to see her come out and pound the zone, spin the ball in and out, good changeup. I’m proud of her.”

Up until the sixth inning, Lessentine pitched a no-hitter. By striking out nine, Lessentine now has the most strikeouts in one game for an Aggie freshman in her debut since 2016 en route to the first shutout of the season.

“I think my ball was moving very well today,” Lessentine said. “My curve, I was hitting my spots with it. I think my rise had good enough up on it.”

Lessentine appeared to maintain a cool and calm demeanor regardless of the Aggies only being ahead by a single run.

“I don’t really think much of it,” she said. “I was just going out there and throwing.”

Lessentine was enough to seal the 1-0 victory.

Conversely, in Game 2, the offensive energy was off the charts.

A&M’s bats were swinging, and Villanova was held off by sophomore right-hander Sidne Peters for the second shutout of the night.

Peters tossed three scoreless innings, while Emily Leavitt and Kate Munnerlyn each provided an inning of relief in the 8-0 run-rule victory.

Villanova was held to only three hits and no runs, and the Aggie offense did their job at the plate as well.

Through five games, Kramer Eschete is hitting .600 (6-for-10) with four RBIs and five runs scored. She also has a SportsCenter Top 10 catch to her credit.

Senior slugger Allie Enright kicked off the hitting streak with a homer to right-center in the third inning. Following Enright, senior Kramer Eschete doubled to right center.

Now that the bats are swinging, a warmed-up Dement homered to left field for her first career round-tripper. That three-run blast pushed A&M’s lead to 6-0.

Dement believes that it is important to be able to back up your pitcher with solid hits.

“When we get hits for her, it just adds up, and it makes you feel good as a player knowing that you can back up your pitcher,” said Dement postgame.

In the fourth inning, Kennedy Powell’s RBI ground out scored Enright, and On the next play, Kelsey Mathis’ sacrifice fly scored Kramer Eschete.

With a successful Saturday, A&M is now 5-0 on the weekend.

The Maroon & White will conclude the 2025 Aggie Classic on Sunday with an 11:30 a.m. CT rematch against Purdue.
