quote:That's an understatement haha. My only wish was for them to just make the Hand of Thrawn series into a movie.
I also think there was a small percentage of people that went into the film looking for some of the EU to be canonized.

"learned force stuff way too fast. She shouldn't have been that competent even as a skywalker that quickly."
This bugged me some at first then I think the whole being trained as a young Jedi and having her mind wiped works out well. She never sees or hears the Jedi mind trick from anyone but somehow recalls it.

Regarding Maz having the lightsaber, she obviously has a history with Han and Chewie, lots of power and connections in the world of smugglers, crime, and espionage, and some connection to the Force. I find it very unsurprising that a person like that would end up with Luke's lightsaber.
do you find it surprising at all that she would have it unguarded effectively in an unlocked box in the basement?
quote:I doubt it was unguarded. The wise old guide character usually pushes those sort of events along. This is Yoda showing Luke the cave. Only what you take in....quote:Even weirder than that -- the unlocked box was behind a door with an electronic lock that unlocked itself at Rey's approach.quote:

This was making the rounds earlier today...
Is it a gravestone, or is it just a rock?

I'm with you there. There needed to be more of a payoff, or they shouldn't have shown it at all. Rey leaving and going to find him would have been a perfect ending. Or having Luke speak something. But I wasn't a fan of how they ended it

Putting a strong female hero front and center isn't being overly pc, imo. There is a real gender gap in the Star Wars canon. Nothing wrong with trying to keep about half of the heroes female.
The Star Wars fanbase, in as much as it's part of geekdom at large, is historically very chauvinistic. I hope that this new relaunch continues to be part of the solution to that particular problem. I want my hypothetical daughter to be able to be an enthusiastic fan of the franchise without having to carve out some small part that is "for girls."
quote:IMO, the Entertainment and Outdoor boards are some of the best boards on TexAgs. Based on everyone I have talked to, on their second viewing the score was more noticeable and they seemed to enjoy it more.
I've read every single post since my review last night and while I'm definitely sticking to most of my initial thoughts/critiques, I do admit that I've come around on a few others. I love talking this stuff out with you guys. I'm seeing it for a second time tomorrow night, this time with my family, and will report back with my impressions after another go-around.

Sorry if this was discussed earlier. I've only read the last 8 pages or so and saw many people talking about Rey's parents. Many mentioned if it would be possible for her to be Leia and Han's child. The possibility of a mind wipe and Leia/Han not discussing her for many reasons were all mentioned, but...Did anyone discuss the glaring issue of Kylo knowing his sister? I didn't pick up on any "you're my sister" vibes.

Most people think she's Luke's kid.
