Wonder if jj os regretting not going to a real contender, not the pretender he joined.

Bills and Packers were both interested in him, but not at the pay he was looking for.

He still has a chance. IIRC it was only a 2 year deal with the Cards.

He'll have suitors line up after next season if he wants it. I assume at that point he would be more interested in opportunity than paycheck.

Look at his contract...He isn't regretting anything.

You would think he be interested in chasing a championship not the money. He is set financially with his 100 million contract and all of his endorsements.

The thing about money is that most people can never have enough of it.

JJ has crafted a public image that people gobble up.

Not saying he's a bad dude but he's just like any pro athlete.

He'll go where the money is.

I wonder if GB was really interested. They were the team he grew up rooting for as a kid. I can't see him passing that up unless the money was just ridiculously low or he just didn't think it would work out between the team and Rodgers.

I don't think he will be highly sought out after next year....he had 16 tackles and 1 sack this year in what, 8 games? This morning Lance Z speculated that JJ might possibly retire this offseason.

GB doesn't really overpay old vets very often so I'd be surprised if they offered him much

I'll keep what little hope i have left alive for Flores as the head ball coach with Pep as the OC and Mayo as the DC.

Yea, to me this says Hamilton is going to be promoted to OC under whomever the new HC is. If he had any concerns about job security then I don't see why he'd decline such an interview. Hamilton promoted to OC is not a bad move. I really am trying to be open minded about the HC search. I do think Caserio's hands were tied last year and Culley was basically the only person willing to take the job. Caserio has to like his chances in hiring an upgrade over last season.

Why is Philadelphia defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon getting an interview with us, or anyone else for that matter? He's young, but in only one category is his defense even in the top 10.

Here are their rankings:
Pass defense: 11th / Houston 23rd
Rush defense: 9th / Houston 31st
Scoring defense: 18th / Houston 27th
Sacks: 31st / Houston 27th
Tackles for loss: 17th / Houston 8th
Takeaways: 26th / Houston 12th
Penalties: 12th / Houston 5th

My guess is the same reason why Mayo is getting interviews as a HC, owners/GMs getting feedback that this person might be the next big thing and wanting to get them in for an interview to at least establish some connections with the possibility of getting their socks blown off. I think coaching searches are becoming like QB searches, everyone wants to get in on the next big thing as early as possible and build around them.

There's no limit on the number of interviews nor is their a cost. Flip over every rock you can to see who you like or who was better/worse than expected.

It's part to find your next coach, the other part is scouting and developing a pipeline.

Nick isn't stupid, I would bet there's a reason for interviewing most of these people.

If they are interested in a young up and comer then DeMeco Ryans should get an interview. I get that he took over for Robert Salah, who is now the coach of the Jets but these defensive rankings are impressive, and he's 36 years old.

Total defense: 3rd
Pass defense: 6th
Rush defense: 7th
Scoring defense: 10th
Sacks: 5th
Tackles for loss: 1st
Takeaways: 9th
Penalties: 7th

I have to think Gannon's experience in scouting both as a college and pro scout is attractive to teams.

His resume isn't bad

yes, Robert Saleh...he was the hot coaching candidate last year.

did not have any answers for the Jets' woes in year 1.

and probably not going to have many answers in year 2.

it's risky taking a job when there is no quarterback

DeMeco Ryans is a coach now? I feel like we just drafted him yesterday. Man I'm getting old.

I think Demeco would be a great hire.

Plus being a former player that may get some buzz going for the organization.

He's still the all time leading tackler in Texans history. Wouldn't have guessed that.

I got to meet Demeco his rookie season. He and Owen Daniels were signing autographs at Reliant Energy (where I worked at the time). Really nice and down to earth guy. Still have his jersey for some reason.

I like hiring DeMeco, just not right now for the Texans. He deserves a better and more stable situation to coach his former team than what the Texans can offer right now.

What's interesting is the Texans are interviewing candidates that to me are less qualified than Pep.

If they're interviewing Mayo and Wars why not give a Pep a shot?
Texan_Aggie

Don't they know Pep though? It wouldn't surprise me if they've informally interviewed Pep and are having discussions without it being an "official" interview.

If he's the best man for the job, so be it. But the fact that he's a former Texans player shouldn't be a factor at all. Hiring people because of their connections to the franchise, rather than the best candidate, is partly why they've never accomplished much in the history of the franchise.

The only buzz that lasts longer than the introductory press conference is winning.

You know, there was a time where A&M did that exact same thing, in fact it was an uproar if said hires didn't have any connections previously.

Glad that ship sailed

Even with their defensive rankings that I brought up I still think Houston's best option will be someone with prior HC experience. I just think they should have an interview with him, you never know. I also agree that no one should be given the job based on prior relationships.

Todd Bowles and Leslie Frazier both have prior HC experience and have had great years as DC's in opposing conferences. There could be a young diamond in the rough out there, but this team has a long way to go. I would be very happy with either of those two men, or Flores.

The more hear about Flores the more I'm convinced he may not be the right guy.

Apparently he has a strong Alpha male personality and is hard to get along with and not too good at relationships.

Sounds too much like BoB for my liking.

I could never see BoB as an "alpha male."

As long as he can manage his temper, I don't mind the "alpha male" persona. BoB would let his emotions override his logic.

Strange thing is... I think BoB can be a hell of a coach at his next NFL HC gig if 1) he stays away from personnel and 2) he learns from his mistakes in Houston.
