I don't buy that O'Brien self-sabotaged at all. He would basically be making himself unhireable if he actually intentionally tanked the team's roster.

I think it's pretty simple. He didn't value draft picks but rather wanted guys who already knew how to be professionals. He gave away too much for Tunsil and Kenny Stills, and didn't get enough for Hopkins. Had he valued draft picks and young talent more, we wouldn't be in this mess. Or at least not nearly as bad.

Per 610 another grand jury in different county has convened to hear arguments on Watson.

Can't imagine they would bring charges against him but man that would be something if they did.

"It's not a new complaint," said attorney Rusty Hardin.

The Cleveland Browns said Thursday they had been aware of the case.
Quote:

Days after Deshaun Watson was traded to the Cleveland Browns, a second grand jury in Texas is considering evidence related to another accusation of sexual misconduct against the N.F.L. quarterback, according to Tony Buzbee, the lawyer for the complainant.

The case, in Brazoria County, south of Houston, is the last criminal case pending against Watson. The complainant told police that Watson ejaculated on her in a November 2020 massage appointment. Buzbee said he expects the grand jury to deliberate and issue a decision today or tomorrow for the case.
Quote:

A grand jury in Harris County, Texas, where Houston is, rejected nine criminal cases against Watson earlier this month. But a 10th criminal complaint filed with the Houston Police Department described an alleged incident that took place outside the jurisdiction of the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

The publicly available police report is heavily redacted but says the complainant told police that Watson "touched her with his ***** and ejaculated causing semen to touch her arm and hand."

The complainant, whose name was redacted in the criminal complaint, is one of the 22 plaintiffs who are suing Watson in civil court for sexual misconduct during massage appointments.
Quote:

The N.F.L.'s investigation into the allegations against Watson is ongoing. A person who identified himself as a security representative for the N.F.L. requested information from the Houston Police on March 15, including witness statements and phone records or social-media messages, and also asked for interviews with the police investigators who worked the case, according to police records.

I don't think he intentionally tanked, I just think the moment he took over as GM he was drowning and everything he did cause him to sink faster with the team. Then his arrogance and/or pride wouldn't let him grab a life line or let go of the grip he had on the team and the team sank with him. It was the beginning of one of those cascading sets of events that brought this organization to it's knees.

Moving forward I do believe the team has positioned themselves well with personnel (both front office and coaches). And while I wasn't a big fan of how the Lovie hire happened, I'm good with him as the captain and think he could actually succeed here if we are giving him a real chance to build the team.

From a football point of view, that second sentence is good news for the Texans. They can finally separate from the situation as it shouldn't affect the trade.

Trade is done. Anything that happens now is squarely on the Browns. Going to be hilarious if he ends up having charges filed. And also good for the Texans because that likely means higher draft picks.

Exactly....no take-backs!

Yep

Whether they knew or not doesn't make a damn bit of difference. The trade was processed by the league so it's done.

Guess they could always botch the physical and try and get it revoked that way but I don't know about all that.

Either way it's interesting with this new grand jury news. You have to think the Harris County DA has shared info on their grand jury hearing that this DA can use to help bring charges forward.

Worth keeping an eye on but in no way has any bearing on the trade. It's done

All you guys expecting all these trade downs are gonna be seriously disappointed.
Expecting the Texans to do anything good is to be seriously disappointed.
I would be 100% fine with them just watching ESPN and seeing who the projected pick is by the experts and picking that guy rather than trying to be smart and make their own choices.

Mary Kay Cabot said he passed his physical. He is solely the Browns' problem now.

I don't know, I think Caserio has done a pretty good job thus far. He still has a lot to prove, but it seems like he's at least pulled the team out of the nosedive. Now that he has draft assets and cap room, the rest tests will start.

Hi, my name is IrishAg, and I have an addiction to draft simulators

Ok, all trades were initiated by the system and not me, plus I used the draft score sheet to see if they were legitimate trades (and they were). So here's my latest mock draft which has us getting an extra 1st, 4 additional 2nd rounders, and a 3rd and a 4th (the screen wouldn't extend down without scrolling in their site) next year.

I think that would be a good start right there.

The last time I remember a blockbuster trade up was the year the Redskins traded up to #2 to select RG3 after Luck was taken #1. I can't remember anything else so history suggests #3 is what it is and no trade back is likely.

Belicik does his trade backs with later-in-the-round picks. It would not surprise me if our 10 picks turns into 12-13, but the 2nd+ round picks are likely the best targets for this.

Jared Goff?
Trubisky?

Bears moved up one spot with the 49ers to get Mitch so they wouldn't trade the pick to someone else. Gave up 2 3rds and a 4th…and then picked Solomon Thomas who they would have picked at number 2 anyway.

I hope someone else panics, and thinks the only solution to their problem is the number 3 pick, or perhaps 13.

My ideal scenario would be trading down from 3 to the 6/8/9 range of teams looking for a QB. Stay at 13. There are several prospects in that range that I think would be good picks. But staying at both seems most likely as the top of the draft is pretty weak.

What a ****ing liar. So in the same press conference he says that he's innocent of all charges he also claims the new money had nothing to do with reversing the decision on the team he said no to first? Kinda gives the claims of innocence less weight.

How does getting all guaranteed money have anything to do with his innocence? Every player wants guaranteed money.

Hahahahaha, he just can't help himself at this point. They went from out of contention to the choice in less than 24 hours with the only change being a guaranteed contact. That idiot.

I'm ready to move on, but that was too damn funny not to comment on.

Speaking of the Texans, I'm hoping we sign Marlin Mack pretty soon. I think he'll be a good young primary back to rotate with a rookie.

I think the point was he was obviously lying about the money so any claims of innocence should be taken with a huge grain of salt since he's just shown himself to be a liar.

I guess youngish, i think he's 26 or 27. But i think we could get him with a medium level pay out, which would help transition to a rookie in a few years.

My favorite part was his slip about "getting back to his brand errr the person I was" before the allegations.

That or saying he had "no regrets".

I think all this comes down to the fact that he thinks he above all of this stuff and/or is just not a very smart person. I'm glad all this blowback is Cleveland's fun to deal with and not ours.

Yeah...The no regrets was a bad look.

You can still claim your innocence while having regrets for how it all went down.

And yes Watson is a habitual liar.
