Those games COULD be interesting. They COULD also turn into blowouts really quickly.

I think we'll see Culley/Kelly/Pep continue to take the kids gloves off of Mills and the offense, but its going to be gradual.

Lopez said it best on 610 this morning:

"David Culley likes to punt"

so a bad team is going to be boring as well

While I agree with the sentiment, Lopez likes to stir the pot and is very good at getting his listeners fired up. Lopez speaks in absolutes and if his opinion is the only one, he is a salesman. I appreciate his game.

so after 3 weeks...the Giants (0-3) are moving up the list of potential trade partners.

-- need a QB
-- play in the NFC
-- potential top 3 or top 5 pick

And they have the Bears first rounder next year. If Deshaun will approve New York as a destination, I think the Giants could be the destination that works out the best for the Texans. I could easily see NY having two top 10 picks in this draft, and a brand new GM.

Remember when everybody crapped on Caserio because he took Mills with the 3rd and now Mills sucks the least out of the rookie qbs (who were mostly 1st round picks)? Unless these rookies progress, which they may, it is a great lesson that buying into pre-draft hype on QBs that are "good" in college and reaching with a 1st because you "need a QB" isn't a great move.

I know the media loves to hype them up and say they are a 1st round talent because it drives eyeballs. I'd rather draft a solid team (mainly defense) and create a team where you just need to plug in a QB rather than build around a 1st round QB.

Lot of time for these guys to turn it around, but history says that it may be only 1 or 2 from this years class that does.

According to an upcoming book about the Pats, BOB was actively trying to get himself fired when he demanded GM powers in Houston.

BoB is the worst.

Quote:

"The plan was fanciful," Wickersham writes, "but O'Brien heard about it. He was in a power struggle of his own in Houston, fighting with general manager Rick Smith, a 'dysfunctional' and 'toxic' situation, according to the Houston Chronicle. The leaks from O'Brien's camp, claiming he wanted out, were so aggressive as to be suspicious, as if he knew he had a golden parachute. In the end, though, the [Texans] chose O'Brien over Smith, giving the coach more control over football operations. O'Brien later joked to a confidant that it was a somewhat empty victory. 'I was trying to get fired,' he said."

Actually, Cal is. He gave the reigns to a guy who was intentionally trashing the team trying to get fired and gave him almost unlimited control. Cal is such a simple idiot.

I guess I don't understand. Why does he need to be fired? He's free to quit and go wherever he wants whenever he wants. Was the concern tampering? Only the Texans are stupid enough to leave a trail good enough to get busted for that.

And all this time I was sitting here thinking he's probably a good guy but an awful coach

Turns out he's both an awful person and an awful coach.

Seriously what a POS.

And this has Office Space vibes all over it. BoB walking around with dead fish knocking over cubes only for Cal to promote him.

What an abomination of a franchise.

You may be on to something. Maybe he thought he could first collect a big severance package then head to NE.

That is consistent with the traditional definition but the way it's written, the parachute appears to be the NE job. I mean, his contractual terms with the Texans was no secret to the team.
Sea Speed

Yea I figured it meant he got the GP for getting fired and was free to pursue the NE job, not that the NE job was the GP. Eother way, he is an absolute moron for thinking he was just gonna slide up to NE and be the HCIW.

Again why trade him now and have that team improve their win/loss record and give yourself and worse pick?

I don't know. Unless everyone knows he isn't playing until his legal issues are resolved.

Makes no sense to trade him now. Teams like the Dolphins/Eagles need a QB today, the Texans need picks in April 2022. Let the desperation grow and maximize your return.

Maybe that is what is happening right now. Dolphins/Eagles are saying that we will give you more of a return if we can get the deal done now to help them out this season. So maybe the Texans can get more 1st + 2nd round picks instead of a few top 10 picks. If the Texans are rebuilding from the ground up, it may make more sense to have a higher quantity of 1st + 2nd round picks as opposed to 1 or 2 top 10 picks.
Texan_Aggie

I see your logic. I think teams are only allowed to trade picks for the next three years, so the return may be the same one way or another.

I'd also say we should let the Eagles and Dolphins ride with Hurts/Tua as they are not that good and they'll realize after the season that its either trade the farm for Deshaun, stick with Hurts/Tua, take a flyer on a rookie (longer timetable), or try to trade for get another veteran QB.

I like our chances better after the season when you know exactly what our return is and the Dolphins/Eagles/whoever else know the guy they have isn't the answer. Risk there, though, is Deshaun could get popped in court in February and you have no tradable asset.

Looks like a few rumors swirling that the Eagles owner has green lighted a Deshaun trade. Nothing imminent.
