I would love nothing more than for them to do that....but they are fully bought in on the patriots alignment with the front office, so don't expect that to change.

In other news, was just listening to NFL network and they just said the main point that got Culley fired was that he was unwilling to make changes that the front office wanted, mainly replacing Tim Kelley, so they went ahead and removed him.

Guess I need to find another team to follow.. certainly not the cowgirls.

I'm not sure it's deliberate.

Caserio is the GM and he came from NE. So obviously all his connections and close relationships are guys from NE.

And I know he's from NE but I think Caserio was the right hire.

Now the BoB and Easterby stuff were the mistakes. But right now I think it's just a matter of who Caserio is familiar with.

Being from NE shouldn't automatically qualify someone but it also shouldn't automatically disqualify someone.

Na Kelley didn't have anything to do with his firing.

If it was once or twice then you say its coincidental. When you hired what seems like 5 plus coaches and front office guys from NE or played in NE. Its intentional and a reason why literally everyone refers to us as patriots of the south

Maybe caserio will be good, but he is like the 6 person we have taken from NE or with deep ties to NE

And fans want to distancd ourselves from that because it clearly has not worked. Why not try something different?

Just relaying that's what Ian Rapaport(sp) was just saying on the NFL Network's daily updates on the coaching moves.

Who are the hot head coach candidates this year? Haven't heard as much umph around Bienemy this year. Perhaps it's just coincidence that Flores/Mayo are heavily promoted and from the Patriots.

Based on history, the Texans are more successful hiring off the Patriot tree than not…

I think I'm still stuck on the fact that they thought Culley was going to be good.

Why?

How?

Wasn't it obvious????

I'd love to know the exact moment that triggered this response: "You know what?... I'm not sure this Culley guy is the diamond in the rough we were sold...we might have made a mistake"

And they tried to hire a 'good' coach and Culley the 50 year vet WR coach was the only one who would join the circus.

Texans have done some terrible **** the past few years. But hiring culley and giving him 22 million and firing him after 1 season is probably the worst. That makes zero financial sense. Unless there's something I'm missing.

Don't know if it was posted, but they interviewed Flores per their website/insta

The only reason you fire Culley is if you are confident you can get the guy you truly want AND you don't think he's available next season. I have zero confidence in this with our front office though

Nothing has changed. When they became Patriots South with the hiring of BOB, they were committed. They tried to hire Cassario when BOB was still here but got in trouble for tampering. They already had hired Easter Bunny, who deshaun Watson really liked originally.

But BOB won the short battle with Brian Gaine and got him fired taking over GM as well as coach. When he gave away D Hop that was the point Watson wanted out.

Bottom line is Nick wants probably Brian Flores and maybe even Jarod Mayo as DC, and Culley was gonna be retained until the Fins surprised everyone firing Flores. If Watson is traded to Miami, The Flores firing might have been related, just as the Fuller signing probably was.

The NYG having picks 5 and 7 makes this more complicated. They now have more to offer than Miami, so it's unclear who will get Watson now.

If NE loses to Buffalo, look for Mayo to get an interview then they hire Flores and offer Mayo the DC job to help him move up to Head coach with somebody.

I know TL DR. But I prefer to ramble.

Jack easterby still in the building takes away all of the excitement that I should have on finding a new head coach. Especially if they hire jerod mayo who has never even been a coordinator because a real NFL head coach would not let jack have any power on personal or other choices for the franchise.

Culley got $22MM for one year of work, that's one thing.

what makes you think that mayo can be a good head coach in the NFL? Not saying he's a bad coach but to jump from being a linebackers coach to head coach is a big jump. A lot more responsibility's come with being a head coach

It would be such a Texans thing to hire someone with no coordinator or head coaching experience.

After their experience with Culley I doubt they make the mistake of hiring a position coach as a HC again.

They're dumb but surely they aren't that dumb.

I took it to mean hire Flores and Mayo

I will say, with how bad the idiots up top are, if they manage to get Flores i think this team will recover quickly. He fits the culture that leadership wants, he's someone players will respect, hell be on the same page with the GM in getting talent, and he obviously knows how to work to build a team.

It would be funny if after not trading for Watson, the Dolphins still rebuilt the Texans by firing the best coach they've had in a long time.

This. Didn't think it was that hard to understand hiring both Flores (HC) and Mayo (DC)… especially when I responded to some posting about this specific situation

one knock on Flores...he's not an offense guy at all.

could never get the Dolphins' offense on track in 3 years.

will need a top notch OC

I'd be willing to be the head coach of the least desirable team for a fraction of that cost. They could get me for one year for a bargain.

And I'd probably win about as many games as whoever they do hire.....

He took them over when they were in full tank mode, then led them to the first back to back winning seasons in almost 20 years. They also went on their run this year after the trade deadline passed and the distraction of trade rumors went away.

I'm not saying he's the next Lombardi, but hard to find much fault in how he did in Miami.

Alright everyone, give me your predictions on the Watson situation. I'll go first:

Watson settles and no charges are filed in Feb. He gets traded in March/before the draft. To the colts.

Texans get a first and a third for the next two years.

Best case for everyone.
