Do you think Caserio is doing this so Watson opens up his teams he'll play for?

It's almost like Watson is getting antsy and leaking fake stories to put pressure on Caserio.

Wait, that's happened every week the last 9 months.

how come the Eagles are not being mentioned? Hurts is close to being benched.

maybe they straight up told Caserio...they won't give up their 1st round picks

It could also be that Watson said he would never waive his no-trade for Philly...

I know this might be out there, but maybe there are teams that simply aren't interested in someone with his "legal troubles" regardless.

What's the residual risk for teams who want a QB talent upgrade?

...is the criminal investigation still ongoing? If Watson settles with all twenty-something-odd masseuses, would risk of any pending criminal charges just go away immediately? If a criminal charge is brought forth at any point, even if the case is lengthy and ongoing, verdict is unknown, and jail time is ultimately zero, is there still risk of the NFL imposing a lengthy suspension? I believe the NFL has suspended players for 6 games or more or even a whole season just for charges being filed... (?).

I know the Texans' recent history of personnel decisions is shameful, to be kind, but as is made apparent by their look at possible trade deadline deals, CBSsports.com thinks they are morons of the highest order.

I'd honestly be surprised if we even got a 3rd rounder out of him. Not sure what you are thinking?

They would be crazy to not immediately pull the trigger if they can get a 3rd rounder for Cooks. I also remember him threatening to retire if he's traded again.

"China virus" is not a racial slur.

I am all for whatever could make the McNairs sell the team, but this is stupid.

Rumor is Watson deal could be inching closer but hangs on Watson settling his cases and signing an NDA which Watson is opposed too.

Some also believe Watson wanted out of Houston because he knew about the massage lawsuits before his blow up with Cal..

This whole is fascinating and can't wait until all details come to light in the future.

It started in China and it was a virus.
It couldn't be a more accurate statement if you tried.

That's like saying calling an IPA an Indian Pale Ale is a slur.

But if it gets Cal McNair out, let's make it a big deal. Although I'm sure there's a Cletus McNair or a Dilbert McNair buried in the weeds somewhere that's even dumber than him.

IPAs originated in England. In the 1800s it was one of the few beers that could survive the ship voyage to India (low sugar + high hops = less chance of spoilage). Thus, it was named the India Pale Ale, not because it was made by or exported by India.

I don't think it's racist but it was stupid. Right or wrong, it was completely foreseeable that an article like this would be written if a journalist caught wind of him saying that. Particularly after what his dad went through. Just further proof that Cal has no business running the team.

Agreed. Making that comment and defending it as "not racist" is not a hill you want to die on if you're a billionaire/owner of the team - right or wrong, you're going to get the wrong kind of attention in this environment.

Stand in front of the room, make your vanilla comments, and don't draw more attention to yourself. Hire a good PR person and listen to them.

This morning I've seen the story picked up by major news outlets. There is something brewing and it wouldn't surprise me if the NFL was working behind the scenes a push him out.

Based on principle I seem to side with McNair, but I also oddly enjoy the negative publicity this is starting to get.

While not a comment on the appropriateness of his statement, it's relevant to note that the comment was made a team event in May. The timing of this being leaked via the press the week before the trade deadline, I mean, come on...

That's funny because they had a PR person that was liked by everyone and respected around the league, but Cal fired her. She was quickly hired by someone else.

Cal does have a sibling that has been much more successful in business (and life in general) but for some reason Bob and Janice left the team for him to run.

Yeah, she was liked by players and people within the org, but an entity's PR/ spokesperson really shouldn't be alienating half of the season ticket-holders (your primary revenue stream) by talking politics on social media. If you're in PR, your boss probably wants you to remain pretty neutral when people are so divided.

I'm seeing Cal's "anti-Asian slur" from six months ago on the ticker on espn.. I don't believe there's really much outrage about someone referring to covid as the "China virus". It's faux outrage.. being manufactured. and I'm sure it came out now for a reason.

I think you answered your own question on why the team was left to Cal rather than his brother.

Jesus Christ, I miss the Oilers. At least the worst they did was have their GM show up drunk at someone else's wedding, punch a guy, and drop his pants.

I suspect that the other brother is busy successfully running the other businesses and Simple Cal was given the team because an NFL franchise is basically a license to print money and the thought was he wouldn't be able to screw it up too badly.

And in terms of making money, the team is probably doing ok. They could be making more money, but they are profitable as is.
