Edit-And I'm guessing you could find a similar comment about Peyton, Brees, Fitzpatrick, etc. pretty much any QB that people think are bright. Doesn't mean it's even close to accurate.

Edit 2-And the poster child for smart back-up QB that everyone thought would make a good coach one day is Jason Garrett.

Not arguing that.

I said he was well thought of and you asked by who.

This could be a good hire or he could crash and burn and this organization could be right back here.

I'm just saying at least he has potential. There was a reason Culley had never moved up. He wouldn't be my choice but I'd rather them hire McCown than some NFL retread who's proven he can't coach.

Perhaps I don't know my nfl history as well as I should, but if McCown was to be named HC is there a less qualified person to ever be named HC in the nfl?

Zac Taylor's resume before being hired by the Bengals...was rather light and then some.

he never played a snap in an NFL game (regular season).

spent 5 years as a quarterback and receivers coach...and that's it

History says the NFL makes unqualified people HC on an annual basis. See Culley, Meyer, Judge as most recent examples.

Meyer was unproven at the pro level but a college coach who'd won multiple national championships is not unqualified. And I don't like the guy.

He had several years of coaching experience.

I hope they hire Brian Flores and he brings his defensive staff from Miami. I also hope they hire an OC that's good. Draft a Jonathan Taylor type RB (Spiller hopefully). McCown can be qb coach if Flores wants him.

Listen, I love Spiller, but let's not compare him to one of the best college RBs of all time. Taylor basically ran for 2,000 yards each of his three seasons and was 6th all time in Yds with a ton of TDs to boot. Averaged 1.2 more YPC than Spiller.

Don't let the relative lack of hype fool you, he was transcendent. Spiller is a JAG comparatively. Texans shouldn't be focused on RB at all.

If we've learned one thing this past 12 months, it's usually that the media (especially national) don't know jack about what's actually going on with the Texans.

There seem to be a lot less leaks now that Caserio is at the helm and Palcic is out.

the Flores interview...sounds like a desperation move...for Flores.

i.e. since half the jobs are filled...he doesn't have the luxury to turn down the Texans

I'm suspicious of the reason why you put quotes around in person. The neighbor of mine that's involved in the local sports media is pretty down on the franchise right now, so it's tough to really gauge the absolute truth. He thinks it's McCown's job and possibly they want Flores as DC/associate HC or something like that.
