Remember that time we had the first pick in the draft and we could have anyone we wanted to start the franchise and we picked David Carr instead of Julius Peppers?
Easy to say in hindsight. If you were starting a franchise, would you rather build around a QB or a DE? Carr was the obvious pick at the time. The choice was really between Carr and Joey Harrington, so if you look at it from that perspective, it looks like a great pick.

Congrats to the first ever Texans draft pick - Tony Boselli - for his HOF selection!

my 14 yr old son just spent a bunch of his own money for an autographed and framed Dre jersey. I hope he makes it soon.

What a decision that was. Ranks up there with Ed Reed.

Boselli was a calculated medical gamble that didn't work out. Reed was washed up and done before he got here. I don't think the 2 are comparable.

I thought we had to pick Boselli in order for the Jags to unprotect Gary Walker, Seth Payne, et al

I think that's right. Wasn't there a similar deal with the Jets and Aaron Glenn, Marcus Coleman and Ryan Young?

Reed also sandbagged the Texans about his health and/or desire to play

Yeah, Boselli couldn't play because of a career ending injury. Reed couldn't play because he was washed and old.

Had to be…how else do you end up with another teams two starting corners?

Similar deal for jets. Deal was to take all 3 to ease Jets cap issues

Thinking back those early Texans teams were actually pretty talented…just no OL

Nothing beats that game where they dominated the Steelers on the road while putting up <50 total yards on offense.

42 to be exact right?

Tommy Maddox didn't have his best day that day

Actually, I think it was the starting corners they were trying to get rid of for cap reasons. By taking them, they let us also get Young, who was a young, cheap OT at the time.

. @ProFootballTalk just said he's told Brian Flores' attorneys will amend their lawsuit and make the #Texans a defendant for failing to hire him (as HC) in retaliation for the lawsuit he filed

No freaking way that's real? Is this dude just coked out and tired of coaching for his $$ so now he's going to sue everyone?

There is a guy at my work who successfully sued his way in to management. Just ridiculous.

I can't even imagine what the Texans defense would be.

Like...No shlt we didn't hire him because of the lawsuit. He's toxic.

The suit is ridiculous and adding the Texans even note so.

Someone suing me and my organization is a perfectly valid reason not to hire someone… what are these lawyers thinking?

It can't be retaliation if he wasn't ever employed by me… this just doesn't make any ****ing sense.

They're hoping the NFL will settle and they get a payday.

I think he's alleging that him suing the organization the team belonged to as the reason he was not hired, which is retaliation.

Adding the Texans to the suit seems like a no brainer for Flores. He's trying to create as much of a headache as he can so that the NFL pays him to go away.

Fortunately for the Texans, the suit new broke before they made their decision so HOPEFULLY they were able to get their ducks in a row before pulling the trigger. I would assume they have most of their documentation cleaned up before they made the decision. Caserio doesn't seem like the guy who would ignore the suit.

It's become more and more clear that the Texans dodged a HUGE bullet in not hiring Flores.

Would love it if Bilbo's TexAgs post about "Nick wanting to hire Flores but Cal not signing off on it" is somehow used during this process.

"Your honor - we hereby submit this anonymous online forum post supposedly made by a Texans insider into evidence which clearly shows Flores would have been hired but for his lawsuit."

There's definitely some truth to the "squeaky wheel" approach to litigation. Just by being a pest, people will pay you to go away. The question is how much. If you want a big payday (something along the lines of what he's thrown away by tanking his coaching career), at some point, you need a claim with actual legal merit. At present, he doesn't appear to have one. And flailing around and suing everyone for everything is typically not viewed as a position of strength.

One of the weirdest things about the lawsuit (among a lot of weird things) is that everyone -- including the media -- seems to ignore the fact that the Texans are already named in it. Every team is. If they amend anything it's just to include an anecdote about his experience.

Flores does not allege discrimination against him in his original lawsuit. he had them listed as potential defendant is a class is certified for a class action case.

he had to amend to make a claim for himself against texans.

Does it not name every team as defendants? I will admit to not really understanding what that part means. Is it basically reserving them as potential defendants?

But I will add that the lawsuit explicitly accuses the Texans of discrimination based on race, in the firing of Culley. How one can accuse people within the organization of racism and then expects to be hired is beyond me. If Flores were truly principled, he would have refused to interview.

That's one of the many reasons why I never believed Flores was a real candidate for the Texans job.

not exactly. the only actual defendants are nfl, giants, dolphins and broncos.

That's what I'm asking. Are they not included in defendants John Doe 1-29? Is that just reserving them to be potentially named?

EDIT: I should say that I read some analysis from a sports lawyer (whatever that is) and he did say that every team is in fact named in the lawsuit. He could be wrong but that is where I got that idea from.
BMX Bandit

as I said above, each team is listed as potential defendant if a class is certified for a class action case.
