A 1-8 team goes for it there, especially given the analytics, etc. But because the Texans are trying to lose games, they can disguise their strategy. The punt is at least plausible, but it helps the overall goal of losing. Unfortunately, the front office can't stop the players from trying. Hence, the pickoff.

The only thing Houston can do to lose now is throw the ball or miss the FG. Missing the kick is probably the easiest to explain.

I have full confidence in Fairbairn's ability to miss

It's a fair way to lose without throwing the game.

And full disclosure....I'm a Dallas fan, but I know this song and dance. Hard to be professional, lose every game, and keep the fans engaged at the same time...football purgatory, but congrats on the win today.

There never are if the Texans have a top draft pick.

I know this is an irrational belief, but the Texans just won a +5 turnover game by 1 score. This is worse than a loss in a throwaway season. You want to be owed luck in the future, not use it up in a meaningless season.

That's not exactly how "luck"works. It's not worse than a loss, as a fan. I enjoyed seeing these guys get hyped and actually fight, knowing they were well outmatched. Doing it on the road against the former oilers just sweetens it. If this somehow lowers their playoff position or gives the colts new life and a chance to overtake titans, it's worth it to me to possibly lose a draft position. Not to mention the fact there are a couple of players on this team that may be still be here once we are competitive and learning to win a game in the nfl only happens by winning.

Is Corral the best QB in this draft?

Is there really a cliff between the talent at pick #1 and #5 this year? Seems to me that there really aren't any headliners other than those the media will create for attention purposes.

I think top 5 there are great defensive options between Thibodaux, Stingley, Hutchinson, Karlaftis, and Hamilton. I think there's a drop off after that. This isn't a draft to go with an offensive weapon at the top of the first. I don't like any of the QB's in this draft that high. The issue is that the other teams at the bottom of the league are unlikely to take a QB so I think there's a run on defense at the of of he draft. The current teams with 2 or fewer wins are Detroit, NYJ, Jacksonville, and Houston. I don't think any of the QB's is good enough to warrant a pick that high but who knows what things look like after the combine. The middle of the first though could see a lot of teams thinking QB that just aren't at the bottom.

Sweet! We can get us another Mario Williams or Jadeveon Clowney! That will be a guaranteed trip to the Super Bowl, just like those picks were!

I think that's the point - there isn't that big of a difference between having the #1 pick and the #5, Texans will surely be in that range this year and there isn't a Luck, Lawrence, etc. that is a "must have". That's why we shouldn't be trying to lose every game to get the 1st pick and have it be a defensive player of the same ilk as 5-10 other guys.

The Texans shouldn't be looking at QB this year. This is a multi year rebuild and they they need to actually build out the roster before they even think of getting a top QB. If not what you are going to get is either a QB with great promise that never amounts to anything because of injuries or the Watson scenario again where the best you can do is winning some playoff games because you have to segment a good portion of the salary cap to the QB's second contract before you've built the roster around him to have a chance to compete for a championship.

if the 2022 draft is weak for QB's...

then there should be more teams interested in trading for Watson -- right?

the 2023 draft should include the Bama QB and Ohio State QB

Yes. I think this is why Caserio didn't force a trade to Miami. Bigger market w/ more time to get Deshaun's buy in. Also, you know what picks you're getting.

Glad we didn't jam a trade through just to move him.

It's strange isn't? Talking about a front office that is making a decision we're happy with? I feel like this is a trap for some reason, but I'm actually starting to look forward to the draft for the first time in a while.

and speaking of the front office...are we allowed to possibly give the Texans credit for electing not to give Hopkins a 4 or 5-year extension with a lot of guaranteed money?

he was great in year 1 in Arizona.

but in year 2...he looks like a 9-year veteran
