Mills throws an INT at midfield, Conley gets a clear strip on the return and the Texans recover…refs conference and call "forward progress" (it absolutely wasn't).

Next play, they air it out into good coverage and then they throw a very late flag and hit the Texans for PI where there was nothing close to it to give them the ball inside the red zone.

It was awful.

Yep. Refs making sure San Fran wins this game. They just took away a long reception with a holding call.

Refs aren't any worse than the head coach, down by 10, 6 mins to play, doesn't go for it on 4th down. He quit on his team.

Should he be going for it there?

That doesn't seem outrageous.

WGAF anyways...They need to stop winning.

This was a competitive game until the zebras got involved during that one stretch…. I don't think the Texans were the better team, but that stretch definitely flipped the momentum and those calls were not even close.

Mills looks like he could be a competent starter. He seems to have outgrown the HC and OC capabilities, at this point. Cut Kelly and let Pep have a try at OC. Give Culley one more season and thank him for holding the fort down during the Deshaun drama, and hire a real HC.

So many questions with this organization. People want to point the finger at Cal/JackE, and rightfully so. Deshaun eff'd this team/organization at least as much. Time to turn the page and move on.

I was actually watching briefly the first half and Mills made several throws that were excellent. Legit, NFL caliber throws. I was impressed. Maybe he could be a nice stop gap for several years.

Is it quitting if he never really started in the first place?

Culley is a nice guy, but he's a mental midget from a coaching perspective.

Maybe Cleveland really will trade for Deshaun. Or try to. I doubt Deshaun waives his no trade clause for them.

If we fire Culley, do we look for a stud coordinator (McDaniels, Bieniemy, Moore) or a former head coach with experience (Pederson, Marrone, etc.)?

I wouldn't be surprised if they circle the wagons on Daboll. He has experience with Caserio in New England. Purely speculation on my part though.

I don't think we're firing Culley. I think Nick sticks to his plans - have Culley hold it all together until we get a new wave of drafted players in and give him a nice retirement check for the remaining three years on his contract.

Who we go after next season will depend on how Mills develops, in my opinion. If he shows promise, Texans would be an attractive job for most. But if you are still in QB no-man's-land, then it's like an up and coming younger coach.

Culley gets another year, he deserves it. This team was a dumpster fire to put it mildly and 4 wins surprised me to say the least. Add to that Mills steadily getting better with minimal supporting cast. Finally getting a chance to draft in the first couple rounds again. Some positions of need can be addressed in both the draft and free agency. Watson has to be motivated to get this case resolved this offseason. It's also best for Houston, it's their best chance to get real value for him, so many teams need a qb, his trade value still has to be substantial. If it drags on another year it doesn't look good for him or the organization. Next season will determine Culley's fate, not this one. Also I still think the Houston job isn't attractive enough for a top flight candidate, but another season of improvement could give it a lot more potential. Guys like Bienemy, Daboll, Moore, McDaniels, etc aren't jumping to Houston.

Open jobs:
Jacksonville
Las Vegas

Likely to be open:
Chicago
Denver
NYG
Minnesota

Maybe:
Carolina

Culley's fate is already sealed. As soon as this team gets a couple of decent drafts under its belt he's gone.

He's a place holder (seat warmer, patsy, or whatever term you would like) because technically the team has to have a coach but this team is in the first year of a multi-year rebuild with zero hope of winning any meaningful amount of games for at least 3-4 years, all while being held hostage by the Watson debacle. Culley's job is to be a nice guy that is difficult to dislike, won't make any serious personnel demands of the GM and to continue to convert oxygen into CO2 for 3-4 years, then go away quietly into retirement as a relatively rich footnote in NFL history.

No one in team management is expecting or frankly wanting Culley to win games and "turn things around". Success for Culley is defined as not winning too many games so as to mess up the Texans' draft placement for the next couple of years and not making significant waves so as to anger the fan base to any significant degree.

The only thing that speeds up that timeframe is a sudden conclusion to the Watson situation prior to this year's draft that results in a tidal wave of draft picks for Houston. Even then it might not given the dearth of high quality QB's in this year's draft.

Culley's return for 2022 is bad sign regarding the rebuild --- it's going to be 4 to 5 years

(and 2021 was year 1)

To clarify, I don't think we fire him either. I'm just saying IF we do. Personally I'd like to see Doug Pederson hired as our next HC if he isn't scooped up this offseason. He lost his job because of Wentz and the toxic Eagles fan base. He led a team with Nick Foles at the helm to a Super Bowl. I think he could definitely lead us out of the cellar. Just my opinion.
Ag_07

Yeah I think Culley is a garbage HC but this situation is not attractive enough for a permanent HC. They need 1 or 2 more years before they're ready to hire the coach to lead them into the future.

It's a moot point since Culley will be back but if I was hiring a HC right now I'd look closely at Leftwhich and Demeco Ryans.

If indeed Culley stays it will be interesting to see what they do with Tim Kelly. He's not very good but do you keep him for consistency's sake. If you fire him and hire a new OC then hire a new OC next when you hire a new HC that's a lot of coaching changes for a young QB.

That, plus losing games, kicking a player, being hated by the entire organization, and them being just an overall **** show since he showed up.

Dang, he kicked a player? I knew everyone thought he sucked, but I didn't realize they did something about it. What's the rumor mill saying about where he will land in CFB?

Yes, he kicked Josh Lambo. That story coming to light was the final straw.

No idea where he'll land. I think he's done but you never know.

Jacksonville will not be hiring BoB. Jax has had consecutive disciplinarian-style coaches. I don't see them hiring a third.

BoB has likely been asked by Saban to find another job, hence why his name is getting thrown into the Jax/Carolina searches to see what comes out of the woodwork.

I disagree I think the smoke is pretty real here. And why would saban add a potential distraction to his team who plays for a title tomorrow by telling BOB to find another job.
Ag_07

It's been pretty widely reported that Saban hasn't been too pleased with the offense and BoB.

Doesn't make too much sense seeing as they have a Heisman QB and playing for the national championship but that's the speculation.

About to go wire to wire not watching a single second of the Texans this year. What a train wreck. I still hate Bud, but man do I miss my Oilers.
