Someone sent me this. Chron I think:

Texans executive vice president Jack Easterby defined his role within the franchise's front office in a rare interview with a Philadelphia-based sports podcast Sunday, which provided clarity to Easterby's job title and broke an 18-month long media silence that lasted through several controversies that included a series of critical Sports Illustrated articles about his relationship with the team.

Easterby told Jacob Hare and Jacob Erlbaum in their "Jacob And Jacob Podcast" that the Texans are "organized in a very unique way." General manager Nick Caserio, whom the Texans hired in January 2021, oversees the team's football decisions that dictate personnel and the team's "football performance on the field," Easterby said, while Easterby focuses on subprograms that include the sports performance team, plus areas that focus on workplace logistics and technology.

"It's a support role that really hopefully drives the innovation and hopefully the efficiency of the operation to give the coaches and the players and the general manager what they need to be able to do their job well," said Easterby, who has not been part of an on-the-record availability with Houston media since the announcement of now-estranged quarterback Deshaun Watson's contract extension in September 2020.

Caserio outlined a similar structure in a January interview with Sports Radio 610's morning drive show "Payne & Pendergast" in which the second-year executive said "anything as it pertains to making football decisions" like contract signings, draft picks, scouting, "those things fall under my jurisdiction."

Caserio defended Easterby in the same interview, saying he's "been a punching bag since he's got here" and said "quite frankly some of it's been unjust." Caserio said Easterby was brought to Houston in April 2019 to oversee operations from a "logistics standpoint."

Easterby, 40, had spent the previous six seasons as a character coach with the Patriots. A former chaplain with the Chiefs, Easterby had an uncommon career path toward holding such responsibilities within an NFL franchise.

I think Easterby signed a 3-year contract in April 2019.

I wonder if his willingness to do an interview...means that he has been extended or received a second contract with the Texans

They seem to be going into tank Mode. Why would they trade for dw?
W

whoops, Seattle did not have a 1st round pick prior to the trade. (sent it to the Jets for Adams in 2020)

the Seahawks will get Denver's 1st round pick (#9 overall) in 2022.

but that won't be enough in a trade for Watson

Good haul in return, I think. Not sure the equivalency of their value- what would Watson garner at this point?
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

If the legal stuff ever clears, that trade helps the Texans enormously. Watson is 7 years younger than Wilson, and while he certainly has less post-season success, is a similar type of player.

Did Russ want out of SEA and force their hand or is this a tank job?

NFL Network is reporting right now that there is actually more of a market for DW4 this year than last year. Also, Seahawks might be in play too.

That's why I asked about Russ wanting out or being shipped out.

If it was him wanting out of SEA then they now have draft capital for a Watson trade.

So far, I haven't heard anything one way or another, but it looks like not everyone was on board with the trade from the Seahawks side lol

Was Watson ever going to talk? I feel like he'd plead the 5th regardless of whether it was before or after grand jury does anything.

He was pushing hard to get out of Seattle last offseason (his wife went public too) but Seattle couldn't find adequate compensation. I'm guessing he has still been pushing for it this offseason but less pubicly.

To that note though, it looks like Seattle is doing a fire sale on that team. So probably not going to be a suitor for Watson.

We really need high draft picks. But i guess if the steelers are the only dance partner then you dance with them

Steelers pick 20th this year and don't have a 4th or a 5th, so if the theoretically traded their 1,2,3 this year, they wouldn't have a pick until the 6th round.

They never had a losing record with Big Ben dating back to 2004, and I'm not even BSing you, the last time they had a top 5 pick was 1970 when they took Bradshaw #1. The Steelers have sustained an utter lack of bad seasons better than anyone in the last 50 years. You'd be banking on them to be absolutely terrible with Watson if you went in a deal with a bunch of draft picks. History says they won't be high picks.

If it's the Steelers, that's likely an absolute disaster for the Texans. As others have commented, none of the picks in return will likely be in the top 15, much less the top 5. The difference in value is enormous. As an example, San Fran traded 3 firsts (including the No. 12 pick) and a 3rd to move up to No. 3 last year. 3 mid-20s first round picks probably isn't worth one top 5.

https://www.espn.com/blog/houston-texans/post/_/id/26266/what-do-fridays-grand-jury-proceedings-mean-for-deshaun-watson-houston-texans

Here's some additional details about the grand jury proceedings tomorrow:
-Deliberations could be completed in a day, or go into next week.
-10 women filed complaints with HPD.
-8 of them also have filed civil suits.
-9 of the 12 grand jurors are required for the matter to go to the DA who will decide on whether or not to proceed with criminal charges.
-Most of the potential charges are misdemeanors, but there is also the potential for felony sexual assault.
-The grand jury does not impact the civil cases.
-NFL discipline can be decided at that point if there are no criminal charges.

With the old adage that you can indict a ham sandwich, is there any way this doesn't result in charges?

With the draft picks likely in the 20's as opposed to top 10, you'd have to also get back young, cheap talent like Najee Harris and Dan Moore in addition to those picks.

surely Caserio is smarter than trading Watson for 1st round picks in the 20's

If the Steelers want Watson, they have to admit in public that Mike Renfro was in bounds in the 1979 title game and give us their Super Bowl trophy from that year.

It's the Texans. What makes you think that??

It's early but I would say the two teams most interested, actual discussions between teams, are Carolina and Seattle for Watson.

Going to be interesting to see how much Watson pushes his side of the no trade clause.

Caught the tail end of a conversation on 97.5 with an attorney. He thinks the grand jury will True Billl Watson.

In the long run Watson might have done more to tank this team for a longer period than Butt Chin.

Not a lawyer here, but basically it means the grand jury will give the DA a green light to proceed with the case. I've talked to a couple of friends that are lawyers recently and they both suggested that there isn't enough evidence based on what they know about the case.

So who knows. We might not even find anything out today. It's been over a year and there will be a lot to get through.
