Even though I haven't set a line in waaaaayy too long I would like y'all to know that I am working on my fly fishing skills.....

As of this AM my Mav, or whatever I'm fishing, is 20.6 pounds lighter because there's that much less CP90 ass to carry. I won't be going shallow rick shirtless, ayto bearded, or have BKCs curly locks.... but I'm down to the weight of a 70 2 stroke from not quite the weight of a 60 4 stroke.

Good man! I am down 60 lbs from Sep 2015. Surprisingly, it does help!

Good question and I wont dillute this thread with it but moving into an alcohol free lifestyle was all the change I needed. 235# to 175#.

Went and fished Cocodrie with Ron Ratliff. Some of y'all may have seen his pics on the book of face but maybe not.

Friday was tough as it was really cloudy most of the day and we poled over a bunch of fish before finally getting some sun late in the day. Saturday was a complete blow out with bluebird skies but winds from the N/NW at 25-30 and chocolate milk water so we called it by 10:30. Only 2 fish brought to the boat, my partners big drum and my red that is actually bigger than it looks when being held in front of my fat ass self. Had a couple others come unbottoned and multiple shots on a red that had to be 40"+ but he just wouldn't eat.

Stayed at Sportsman's Paradise down there. Cheap, clean, and comfortable with good food.

Anyway, here's the pics...

Anyone ever dealt with sages warranty dept? The drag on my reel crapped out today and only does about a third or the resistance that it used to.

Not with a reel-but I have sent a couple rods back and had good luck with it. With rods, you just pay a shipping fee and a processing fee which comes to about $60 and you get your rod back in three weeks to a month or two depending on their workload.

The first step is to go online and register the item.

As I mentioned a while back, my brother and I did a trip out of Woodland Plantation in Louisiana. Had rough conditions with 20+ mph winds and clouds, but made it work.

Echo rods are probably the best bang for your buck rod out there. Even better than TFO, IMHO.

Those 1-piece Prime rods are pretty well regarded. I've cast several 1-piece rods recently and become pretty enamored with them to the point I want to pick up a few. I am slightly bummed though that the prototype 1-piece Scott Meridian (9wt) I fished with on a guided trip to Key West back in November is not slated to ever be produced. That was a sweet, sweet stick.

I've pretty well decided I want a 7, 9, and 11wt 1-pc despite not really needing them.

I may have a problem.

I need a relatively cheap 7wt that travels easy. Any recommendations for something that can serve double duty for fresh and salt? TFO? Most of it's life will be throwing streamers for bass.

Also need to see if I can find a spare spool for an Orvis Access mid-arbor.

Do any of y'all have any experience building leaders with Seaguar blue label fluorocarbon? Specifically the heavier stuff like 60-100lb. I'm looking for leader materials to build some bigger game leaders and use it as a butt section and found the Seaguar stuff for a good price. I'm also open to other budget friendly suggestions for fluorocarbon.

On that note. Guys with tarpon experience, how do you construct your leaders? Using the IGFA leaders as a base I'm using thinking a long 80lb butt section connected with a blood or uni to unit knot to a 2-3 ft of furled 20lb for a shock leader bimini to a a 2' section of 20lb class tippet and then another section 1-2ft of 80lb for a bite tippet. I'm not too worried about lengths of the class and bite tippet to actually make it IGFA legal, just figured the IGFA template was probably a proven method of doing it. They're a little more work to tie but I kinda enjoy that part of it so I don't mind.

Thanks for the reply and for the suggestions. Couple questions for you.

When you nail knot the butt section to your fly line are you wrapping the mono with your fly line or the other way around?

Does that loop to loop connection from your butt section to your class tippet give you any hinging issues?

No hinging that I've noticed. I think the hinging tends to occur when you go from fly line to butt section not within the leader/tippet.

Finn, others, can I get some input on a trade offer I have?

I'm looking to trade a Dyna-King Barracuda Junior for a 7/8 wt rod that can double for bass and the occasional trip to the coast.

I have a guy offering a Redington Predator 9' 4-piece 7wt, Lamson Velocity 3, 2 unknown brand lines (one is a 10ft sink tip). He's also offering a few saltwater flies or a patch of coyote fur if I want it.

Rod loos to be in good shape. Reel has a little bit of wear, but doesn't look bad. From what I've been able to see, this reel hasn't been made in a few years.

What would you sell that vise for if you weren't trading it? I wouldn't pay more than $150-$175'ish for that rig so if the vise is worth more than that I'd say it's a poor trade.

Elnaco, same rick sawyer but I did not get the Waterman. I was second in line and the first guy who looked at it bought it. Likely a good thing as i bleed money on a remodel and second home.

We had a pretty amazing day yesterday. In my ~2y of fishing I never seen anything like what we saw yesterday: at least 100 tailing reds in some super skinny water. I'll let Rick go in to more detail (cause he's really good at that), but I'll share some of my favorite pictures:

Thanks NW80, I will admit that there was a slight sting of disappointment that I just missed that Waterman, but yesterday on the Micro reminded me what a great boat she is. One for the books.

I won't divulge too much but trust me when I say go. Fish are everywhere at the moment and the crabs and shrimp are thick.
