Picking up a new rod and reel tomorrow... Will post it up.

What did you get?

Also, I'm a bit low on intel these days but am looking to hit the water Sunday. Thoughts on where I might find some clean water? I'm not sure if I want to fish the falling tide in the morning over in East Bay or the rising tide in West Bay/Xmas Bay.
8'6" 7wt Loomis with Hatch 4. Wanted something shorter and a bit lighter for bass and marshes.

I am still biased towards north shoreline of west bay when its working but had good shots on fish in the back lake on southwest corner of carancuhua fishing the eastern shoreline on high but falling tide.

Sunday is looking pretty friggin nice with hardly any wind and good light. I imagine you find clean water on north shoreline.

Gracias. I think this rain and the north wind that's supposed to hold through most of Saturday will push a lot of dirty, fresh water into the areas in East/Trinity Bay I want to check out (Jack's Pocket up near Ft. Anahuac & Sun Oil marsh down near Rollover).

I think launching at Louie's and heading down to Carancuhua or the north shoreline will be the ticket. Maybe we'll see you out there.

As an aside- I got a new reel myself but I'm going to be looking to sell it. I got an Abel Super 7 large arbor in trade for some stuff. It's brand new and never had line on it but the guy I got it from didn't have the papers. This thing is pristine though.

I'm not sure if I'm going to sell it or fish it though. I'm in the process of putting some stuff together to sell and off-set the cost of new stuff.

Make sure and tell me what you thinking of selling... I have cash burning a hole in my pocket (until my wife finds the plethora of new gear at least...).

Well that Super 7 for one.

As for fly gear, probably nothing you'd be interested in but I'm looking at selling a couple of the last version of the Lamson Velocity Hard Alox reels w/ spare spools. A size 3 with SA Redfish taper WF8F plus spare spool w/ backing and a size 4 with SA Tarpon taper WF10F and a spare spool with the 10wt clear intermediate line (I think it's Rio but I'll have to check). They're all 10/10 mechanically and probably 8/10 cosmetic. Plus they have the neoprene pouches, original boxes and papers too.

Most everything else is conventional stuff I don't use anymore.

Technically this isnt saltwater fly related but Zander, my 4.5 year old little boy, caught his first fish on a flyrod today, a small perch in a pond back in League City. Nailed him with the old backcast hook set.

I cant recommend the TFO bug launcher enough to any of you guys with younger kids who show a general interest in fly fishing. I got one for both my son and daughter, matched them with Echo Ion 4/5 and spooled them up today with some rio WF4W line. Super cool little set ups.

Not on the north shoreline of West Bay. Went across to the state park and found a few rat reds but nothing much.

Talked to Marshfly Rob at Louie's and they scratched out 3 way back in Greens. With the water so low I couldn't get back to where they were and Rob said they were mud-sliding a lot of the time.

Feels like maybe a day early. Weather feels fishy.

I just picked up a nano 8/9 from Marshfly. Super cool rod, 1 piece, 7'6" marsh rod.

Hit the beach on Saturday. Had the buggy whip with me but didn't see any decent water to try.

The noe trailer is still in peices. Started off planning to replace the bunk boards and carpet, but now I'm replacing everything to get ready for the haul to the keys. Ready to get it all put back together and be back in the marsh.

If the weather forecast holds I really think this coming weekend will be strong. I think this past weekend was too close to the passing of the front. Plus, it looks like the winds will shift a bit so there will be more water in the marsh and I can probably get back to those spots.

Saturday & Sunday look right. I doubt I can get there Saturday but I might be able to get out Sunday though I'm thinking of checking out some of that East Bay marsh around Yates Bayou and Sun Oil Marsh.

We can always put the micro in the water and get damn near anywhere... just sayin' have boat and like to pole.

I could definitely be up for that.

Do you have a sissy-bar on your poling platform because I wouldn't trust my fat ass to not fall off the platform on a BT Micro.

Tarponfly and I are tweaking the skiff a little and will be keeping it on Copano. I'm really looking forward to working the far shoreline, Mission Bay and Copano creek.

What are y'all doing to tweak it?

I'm looking at doing a couple things to the panga. But definitely having them done professionally.

Primarily:
1) have a professional fiberglass shop alter the layout of the fly rod tubes and supports under the gunnels- they're just not laid out efficiently right now.
2) getting a fold-up step/backrest/leaning post welded to the poling platform so I can have something to lean on when I want to stand up while running and make it easier to get up & down from the platform

Putting the casting platform/seat further forward in the cockpit. It trims the boat out better with the weight further forward. And, putting a grab rail behind the bow to ease the ingress/egress from the casting area.

Is there a reason why you guys have to put intimate details of where you all were fishing???? Pretty sure some of this is the reason why there was over a half dozen skiffs that we have never seen in our life in a certain area of Greens. Half the fun is finding them on your own not searching/reading forums especially when the galveston fishery is pretty small compared to other Texas coast locations. I'm all for grip and grin and action shots but not followed by we went three turns up x y and y marsh and it opens to this area and it was just epic or man southshore is stacked get there at dawn before the masses. Some cards are best kept close to the chest. Same principle applies to anywhere or sport (public duck hunting would be another great example of this). Carry on gentlemen.

You created an account today and this is your first post? Interesting...I could be wrong as I've never met Centerpole, NW80, and Finn in person but they all seem to be pretty good friends and for the most part they are the main contributors (i know there's more those just came to mind) of this thread except for the few of us that add our snippets of stories and love for saltwater fly fishing. Hell most of us on this thread probably don't have a skiff. Maybe they just like to discuss where they fish in a forum amongst friends and like minded people, to each his own, but if they want to share where they fish let them.

whose alter is this?

you really think saying he caught a few reds at the state park and hearing others catching in Greens is giving away top secret fishing tips for Galveston Bay?

When you're on a good bite of those "5 inch fish" sometimes you just want to share that info with some other Ags so they can get in on the action.
