Was Jojen's death by magic TrueBlood fairy fireball what he predicted when his hand was on fire at Craster's? OR, did hand on fire mean more than just the end of Jojen?

False. It forces dorne to make alliances with its daughters instead of sons. This means their only chance to be with a targaryen would be with varys' aegon.

My question is in the book A Dance With Dragons Bowen Marsh & his followers stab Jon Snow after he intends to march on Ramsey Bolton. In the book they make it appear that Snow has died, which I really hope he is not. Snow is my favorite character in the books & in the tv series.

My guess is next season will be about Jon being named commander and all his moves to make peace with the Wildlings. "Mance" probably gets burned in the first or second episode.

Season will end with him getting stabbed.

I thought they are going to try to milk 2 seasons out of books 4/5...

Also are we just saying to hell with the Greyjoy storyline? Balon got nothing this season and Asha got 1 scene... I felt the Greyjoy part(especially the fleet to Mereen) was significant to the story.

Good stuff and not spoilerish.

Well the last one should stop pretty soon considering how bad the last two books were

It actually may not take much for the show to equal or surpass the books in quality.

Have some characters in the right place at the right time i.e. Brienne and the Hound fight and you've got some quality TV.

I just don't see this at all. The producers have said again and again that they are not going to do a 10-season story, not to mention that the kids are all growing up - Bran is like 35 now, and Rickon will probably have a beard when he shows up again. Why on earth would HBO dilute the quality of one of their best shows of all time, and have 2 seasons of fluff when they can do it in one? There is no way Martin will finish the books before the series is done on HBO. HBO wants three-four more seasons, and they are going to write the show to get there. They will not stretch out the next two seasons so that after 7 years, the show will only be halfway through the story, just to make the book readers happy.

It would be different if there was a chance Martin can wrap up the books in the next three years, but he can't. Under any circumstances. Frankly, I will be surprised if TWOW is published in 2015, and the soonest he could get the next book out would be three years. And that's assuming he writes with a discipline and focus that he hasn't had in over 15 years.

they've said 7 but i think they are just trying to apply some pressure themselves.

it is at the absolute height of its popularity now and they only want 3 more years. doubtful.

i think they will go 8 maybe 9.

if he can publish TWOW in 2015 then it is out before season 6...and assuming its as big as most imagine that moght comprise a couple of seasons at least.

so say seasons 5 and 6 cover book 5 and into book 6, then season 7 is neded just to finish book 6.

he might be able to have book 7 out around the time of season 8 which would coincide. working with them, they would know the story and direction and be able to line up what they want and hit the high points he has worked out.

then they wrap it up in season 9.

but that is optimistic.

although book 2 and 3 were only 2 years apart from the previous. maybe GRRM will surprise us and come out with both books finished next year. he seems rather non-chalant about the whole thing. maybe he knows soemthing we don't.

GRRM wrote himself into the books

-he plays mind games pawing at people's thoughts and emotions
-he has no problems with high usage of violence and sex to play those mind games
-he ruins the fans desire for Justice/revenge against the bad characters
-he mutilates his victims especially after larger events have calmed
-he's necessary even if he's hated
-he's a sadistic b*st*rd who could very well die before he finishes what he set out to do

GRRM is Ramsey Snow...

Yeah, he knows he's not planning to finish the books.

Kidding, a bit, but I think we'll have to agree to disagree here. I will be very surprised if HBO goes more than 8 seasons, and I don't believe that Martin can possibly wrap up the story before HBO will be ready for it.

Not to mention that the show is going to start pulling storylines together out of basic expediency, that GRRM is still deliberately keeping apart. I expect to see a lot more scenes like Brienne and the Hound - stuff that pulls main characters together into the same scene, even though it wasn't in the book. The most frustrating thing about the books is that 5 books in, there is absolutely no convergence - everyone is near one another, or thinking about how to get to each other, but they don't. Obviously, they will, and GRRM is laying the groundwork for how it all happens, but a TV show with that kind of budget can't afford to spend the majority of a season - not to mention two seasons - plot and world building with no payoff.

let's be real

we're not going to get A Dream of Spring

at least not one written entirely by Martin

It's the most watched show in the history of HBO. I don't know what the plan is, but I could see them not being in too big of a rush to end it.

I think some things are really well done in the show, seeing the visual representation of certain things is great, and some of the actors have been phenomenal, but it will never come close to being as good as the books in my opinion. There is a level of depth and detail that cannot be done in the tv series.

I agree with Jenn and Dave. We'll get Winds of Winter and then GRRM will justify not finishing out ADOS by "consulting and working closely" with HBO writers to finish the series. I just don't see any realistic scenario by which he can finish out the books and keep pace with the show.

I'm no longer in denial and I'm enjoying the series so at least we'll get to see how GRRM envisioned it would end.

As for the child/young actors, no one remembers what Rickon looks like, they already made Tommen as teenager, and Bran will become a tree, so we're good there. It's Arya and Dany that are of most concern. I don't say this to be ugly but those two are fat bombs and the fuses are getting shorter.

Hunter, I posted this back on page 58. I'm right there with you.

quote:
My wife, exclusively a show-watcher, was convinced that Tyrion was going to die. She was very pleased when he escaped, but she didn't trust it. She kept yelling for him to get out of the castle and leave KL.

It occurred to me then that GRRM is really Ramsay Bolton, and we are all Reek. He's been so vicious, that even when he's pouring the readers a nice relaxing bath, we all assume it's full of boiling oil or something.

There's no issue with Dany getting older. She's already in her 20s and actors have people making sure they eat and exercise properly.

It took 4 seasons to get through 3 books, and even then there were lots of cuts to do it that quickly. The pace so far indicates 8-9 total seasons. Moreover, the casting for season 5 suggests that Dorne will be a big part of the storyline.

Only Jon, Arya and Tyrion are on that timeline. Everyone else is well into their book 4/5 stories. Stories that don't have much substance to them as it is (other than Tyrion).

Dorne will play a major role because it makes more sense to send Jaime there than the Rivrerlands.

UrbanAg - You cannot be serious. I will guarantee you that Emilia Clarke will not be fat in 4 years. She is an actress with roles in the pipeline and personal trainers to keep her fit. Sorry, brah. I'm more concerned with Bran looking like a middle-aged man in a couple of years. Kid looks a whole lot older now compared to Season 3.

And she shockingly beat out Tatiana Maslany for that role, which is absolutely ridiculous. Not sure if you watch Orphan Black, but she is an incredibly versatile actress.
