This will be the most interesting casting of this next season, Oberyn is one of my favorite characters. Being from Chile, I guess this indicates that the Dornish will have the Spanish look and accent in the show. I thought of them more as Persian, but I don't really care if they can make Oberyn as badass as he was in the books.

I hated that he made such a quick exit from the series. Was a very intriguing character.

OMG you spoiled me, I didn't know there was going to be a fourth season!

I bet the Red Viper has more screen time than he had book time.

The Viper and his sandsnakes are characters I hope we see much more of on TV than we did in the books.

I'm serious about Patchface. That dude is effing creepy and surely has some bigger part to play in ASOIAF.

This was tweeted by Melisandre recently...

I'm interested to see how far into book 4/5 story lines they go. I find it hard to believe that they would be able to fill part of this season, and then seasons 5 and 6 without getting into Winds of Winter. If that's the case GRRM needs to get the book out by spring of 2015 (I am dubious) and then will have at most 2 years to get the last one out.
I firmly believe we will see then end of this story on the screen before we read it.

FIFY. This is a lot more likely. Once the story is done on TV, what possible motivation would Martin have to spend another 5-10 years writing the last book or two in a saga that everyone knows the ending to already? Martin loves his fans, but he's made it abundantly clear over the years that he doesn't think he owes them anything. No, once the series catches up to the books, the books are done.

Money. He will finish the books, maybe not on time, but he or someone at his behest will finish the books because there is too much money to be made.

You are talking about a guaranteed NY Times best seller. It will be written, the only question is when.

he has said that he will refuse ANYONE to finish his work, if he were to die before its finished.

apparently Mark Gatiss has been cast for a "unknown role" this season. any guess as to whom?

Hizdahr Zo Loraq?
Victarion Greyjoy, Aeron Greyjoy, or the crow's eye? (if this storyline comes up)
Jon Connington?
Doran Martell?

i would almost certainly say no way to any of the Greyjoys. just doesnt strike me as that type.

Doran Martell is a possibility but i figured they were going more Latin/Mediterranean with their look. Gatiss is a little too pastey white for the role, IMHO.

Jon Connington is an interesting thought.

I am thinking Mace Tyrell (although he wont be fat like in the novel)

^ Pretty much my thoughts about the likelihood of those choices. Just throwing things out there. It'll be interesting to see which story lines they pick up and which they leave out or only partially include.

Well i was wrong. Gatiss will NOT be Mace Tyrell, as Roger Ashton-Griffths has been cast as Mace

Also, Indira Varma (from Rome) has been cast as Ellaria Sand. Hope they don't gloss over her "sexual adventurousness".

Joseph Gatt (right picture in Cibolo's post above) could pull off creepy Crow's Eye, but the article is saying he has been filming on the Iceland set (most of the beyond the wall scenes are shot there).

Gregor Clegane, The Mountain will be played by a new actor, the third to play Clegane since the show started.

Tommen will also be played by someone new, but the actor portrayed a young Lannister cousin in the show already.

It seems Daario Naharis will be also played by a different character. He will be played by the dopehead musician from Treme.

And the last casting choice I found interesting is the guy who will play Bronze Yohn Royce. He will be played by the Lord from Braveheart who claimed prima nocta on Chibs' (from Sons of Anarchy) wife.

The next season certainly should be just as good, if not better than this past season; however, looking ahead to book 6 and 7, I can't help but wonder how the show is going to handle some of the bigger battles that are bound to happen.

From everything I've read, the cgi used for the white walkers and the dragons is a large portion of the budget for this show. Combine that with the fact that 60% of the budget for season two was used for episode 9 (battle of the blackwater) and there might be some serious monetary constraints on what GRR Martin and etc can do with those last two seasons in the show (regardless of the content/battles in the books).

(As an aside, the battle of the blackwater didn't have any dragons or white walkers and had several parts that looked REALLY shoddy for the amount of money spent.)

With all the crap that will finally collide (potentially) in the last two books, are any of you concerned about how it will be able to translate to the screen? This is all assuming the books are finished, of course, but still, there seems to be a lot of big battles that need to happen in the last two books.

From a financial perspective it seems that the show has reached its popularity apex. I would think this would allow for bigger budgets in the final seasons. This is a cash cow for HBO and I imagine they will be more willing to do it right after the extreme success they've had so far.

I'm just ready for the books to be finished.

just imagine if they could get their subscriptions figured out and capture some of the piracy market... If they offered an online only "light" subscription or something, I think they'd make some cash from some of the online streamers
Fat Bib Fortuna
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I keep saying if they keep pushing GRRM to finish, he'll start including scenes where there are suddenly 500 dragons instead of 3, and all the battles take place underwater, just to destroy HBO's budget
