question, would it be a spoiler to post a youtube link to the scene in which Stannis burns the 3 leaches?

On this thread? No. We all know it was Joffrey Robb and balon that he wanted to kill

Syrio is dead. He's not coming back. Even GRRM has been puzzled over the reluctance of fans to accept that.

He can say it all he wants, it just makes you the rube for believing it.

The man that told us how to talk to the God of Death can't die. It's against his character and the religiosity of the asoiaf world.

I liked Olenna's reminder to Tywin that the Iron Bank will have it's due.

I liked Loras' role in the episode, he starts eye-screwing the Viper and the Viper is into it while kissing his girl, turns into Jaime and has that excellent exchange:

Jaime: You'll never marry Cersei
Loras: ...and neither will you

(Also, notice midget-Renly's steed a lily-white curly blonde-haired man. Pretty obvious it was meant to be Loras.)

Only for now, I was talking about the other thread. I don't give 2 craps about spoilers on the "spoiler" thread.

I thought the Martells hate the Tyrells worse than the Lannisters? Wouldn't that come into play with Loras eyeing the Red Viper?

My favorite small moment I haven't heard mentioned yet was when Tyrion is walking around the reception and hears Oberyn say hello. He turns to greet him and, without stopping, dryly states, 'Not you.' As him and Allaria Sand walk past to stare at the flexible sexual acrobat twisting in front of them. Tyrion's face at having the 'I just waved at someone who isn't looking at me' was hilarious watching the mix of embarrassment, annoyance, and fear of the Viper. Good stuff and great quick comic relief like the Hound's Lommy, sword naming, and chicken observations.

Did you notice Loras get up during the jousting and leave the table? Great subtle reminder that Joffrey wasn't just mortally insulting Tyrion but his new wife's very powerful family as well.

He was insulting Sansa as well (as usual)

It would appear the show dropped that in place of them hating the Lannisters.

Of course, but Sansa is politically completely powerless - her family is obliterated and she has no patron who would care if she was insulted. The Tyrells, on the other hand, are very rich and are critical in maintaining Lannister control of the city and kingdom.

Yet another reminder that Joffrey wasn't just cruel - he's really stupid too.

also thought the dragon over King's Landing in Bran's vision was provocative. It was only one shadow, which may mean nothing. But a dragon is going to fly over Westeros again. Thinking of that, the Iron Throne was covered in snow as well. Maybe the Others make it all the way to King's Landing and that is where the final confrontation will be, Dragons vs. Others.

Some of those scenes from Bran's vision were in the past, so maybe the dragon flyover was during the height of Targaryen rule?

weren't many of the buildings and the great keep named after Targaryens, implying they were built under their leadership? That would imply that king's landings wasn't as big when they invaded. In Bran's vision the city looked pretty current.

The dragons didn't die off immediately upon the Targs conquering. They lasted for a while as the city grew. You could be right, though.

Balerion the Dread, the dragon that Aegon rode and forged the Iron Throne, lived 101 years after Aegon took power(he was 200 years old). KL was well established by then.

There were kings for several generations afterward that still rode dragons as well.

I realize Mace Tyrell is a bit of a impotent blowhard in the books, but his characterization on the show is really stretching my limits, he looks like he belongs in Oz.

Pretty cool. A "chart" of comparing the GOT S4E2 to the books, and identifying from which books each scene was derived.

Currently re-reading and Catelyn mentions early in GoT that Aegon the Conqueror's son Maegor the Cruel completed the Red Keep, so yes dragons would have flown over King's Landing.

Mace is about how I imagined him in the books. A fat and ambitious man that isn't terribly impressive or smart that his mother is able to manipulate with ease for the most part.

I thought Mace would be a little fatter, but have no other qualms about his casting

So what are y'alls thoughts on Shea and the boat?

Did Tywin's men follow Bronn, buy him off, take Shea back and bam?

Or is Shea not going to be killed by Tyrion?

How does Bronn end up after Tyrion leaves KL? Do we know?

There was a scene in the season preview that looked like Shae was lounging on a bed and then looks up at someone...most people assume this is her looking at Tyrion enter the Hand's room to kill her.

In the books, Bronn is given some land after marrying a Stokeworth and takes other knights into his household.

Bronn is switching teams. He's betraying Tyrion and merging with Ilyn payne

I thought the scene with Tyrion sending Shae away and being nasty to her was an interesting change. I remember being surprised that she turned on Tyrion and now it seems like he gave her a reason to. Of course that is assuming she is brought back to testify against him.

I always thought this was a weak spot in SoS. GRRM didn't give Shae enough of a motive for turning on Tyrion in the book. This was a very good scene addition to the series IMO.

Also in the books shae is a straightup *****, tyrion buys her her own place in the city and gives her jewelry to keep her happy. Being in "Love" was better for the show, but instead of betrayer for gold she's scorned...

Great acting in that scene as well, notice Tyrion never makes eye contact as he talks to Shae.

Bronn switching alliances is consistent, once Tyrion was "out of the game" he had no reason to stay loyal.

As for Shae, it would be easy enough for her to have never left on the ship either through her being found or by her own choices.

I have thought the Shae character hasn't been well done in the Show. In the books she is always naive and selfish more like she is now but in the Show she starts off as this more mysterious and intelligent woman who now seems to get more and more stupid as she goes. I think they are trying too hard to make the female characters all strong when they just aren't. Same with Robb's wife. In the books she is just a pretty innocent girl who Robb fell for but in the Show she is this mysterious and wise woman that even gives him some advice from time to time.

It really should be ok that every female character doesn't have to be smart, wise, strong, or powerful.

I always thought in the books that she was playing Tyrion, and that he killed her when that became evident after she was bought and paid to testify and then he found her with Tywin.

I always kind of liked that because it showed that Tyrion had a blind spot. He always thinks he's the smartest guy in the room, but couldn't read that he was being played by Shae.

I can see your point, but I would find it even more shocking if Tyrion still kills her if the reason she betrays him is because she felt he betrayed her first. Her betraying him for no reason other than gold and then ending up in Tywin's bed was what led him to killing her. If he pushed her there, I would find his killing her far less believable.

What if Shae Is really gone and taking the place of Tysha in the show? Tyrion goes off looking for her. They haven't made a huge deal about Tysha yet, but technically that could still happen in the cell when Jaime goes to visit Tyrion.

Btw, I wonder what the point of Melisandre talking to Shireen was.
jenn96
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I think Shireen - and greyscale - have a role to play in the fight with the Others, somehow. Remember how Val reacted to Shireen? And now Jon Connington has brought greyscale back to Westeros. Mel's conversation with Shireen just keeps her in the forefront and can possibly be foreshadowing (although of what I have no idea). Aside note, I've long thought that Stannis will end up a "bad guy" because of his parallels with the Nights King. (Quotes because in this story, the bad guys will probably end up saving the world). His love for Shireen could be a path to that, if greyscale is indeed linked to the Others in some way.

Mel touched her face, specifically on the greyscale.

I figured this was supposed to be ominous to book readers and foreshadow something or show the she (Mel)is protected from disease etc.

What is going on, on the boat when Tyrion get's covered in greyscale water? or something?
