yeah the whole attempted rescue of theon seemed pointless

the only real takeaway is theon ain't getting rid of reek anytime soon, but that could have been accomplished without the weird attempted rescue

but the trial scene....dayum that was good television

oh, and the ramsay sex scene reinforces my hypothesis that HBO was created by a bunch of horny teenage boys who wanted to trick a bunch of hot girls into showing their bewbs on screen

what was the point of that scene again? oh yeah, to help that actress 'further her career' by showing her bewbs

I watched both of the last two episodes last night, so going back a couple of episodes, I was pleased with the Hound and Arya subtly throwing out the basics of the "Did Syrio Forel really die?" forum argument.

Did anyone else catch how Pycelle mentioned that The Strangler was "one of the rarest poisons on Earth". I chuckled.

Great episode with 2 of the best monologues of the season for sure, Dinklage was epic and kind of overshadowed the awesome speech by Davos.

The Theon stuff was a bit clumsy but still had some great acting. Reek and Ramsay are just as solid as Arya/Hound imo but in a really dark and twisted way. That bathtub scene was so skin crawl painful, loved it.

Red Viper was fantastic as always, really bummed he is almost done.

The long slow march into sleep that is Dany's storyline is on its way as well.

Syrio has been dead a long time! That was just Jaquen wearing his face! Afterwards he was sent to the black cells, where he became Jaquen, so he could further mentor Arya /s

Someone remind me, was Hizdar (the guy who came to dany's court in the episode) the guy she eventually marries in Dance? If so, we're already in book 5 territory with her story.

Also, we still haven't gotten Jorah's treachery out in the open. Doesn't Dany send him away early on in her rule of meereen? I'm thinking tywin tries to buy him off soon after the conversation they had in the small council

Dany's storyline is jumbled. In the books she learns of Jorah's informer status prior to Mereen and sends him on a suicide mission through the tunnels. They also build up the Daario attraction more, it's almost as though they have toned that down from when they took Yunkai.

I expect a lot of "Crasters Keep" and "Yara going to the Dreadfort" filler stuff in the works for Dany as she does a whole lot of not very much the next 2 seasons.

True, well if they are still going to keep her there for a while in the show it's good that they introduced hizdar early on

They can really stretch some of the event in Yunkai. They still have Jorah's betrayal, Jorah's banishment, the insurgency, affair with Daario, marriage to Hizdar, attempted poisoning of Dany, dragons getting loose, drogon eating a child, drogon flying away with Dany, and Yunkai coming under siege. You can definitely finish up this season and next with that material.

If they cut out a bunch of the iron-born chapters they can keep the audience interested while they play up catch up with Stannis, King's landing, the Wall, etc.

The Bran storyline is where the problem lies. They are about out of source material there.

I'm surprised that the Grewjoy/kingsmoot hasn't come into play yet.

Also who is going to be the scapegoat for the Lysa flies through moon door incident? They haven't introduced the musician yet...

Can't have a kingsmoot as long as Balon is still alive.

I think you guys need to prepare yourselves for the tv show cutting out a bunch of pointless Daenarys/Greyjoy stuff.

Actually he was, they just shifted his storyline and he was the singer that had his tongue torn out by Joff in Season 1.

They do need a scapegoat though, maybe Maude? Not many others they have introduced in the Eyrie that anyone would know.

They can and will have to spice up Dany's storyline but not from lack of content, just to keep watchers caring about her. It hasn't helped that Clarke seems to have digressed as an actress, she just looks weak next to the heavyweights in the show. Others with the same issue are Cersei and Littlefinger (less so) imo. Cersei is fine though because she is surrounded by so many strong actors. Dany has to carry her scenes often and she just isn't getting it done imo.

I am in the camp that is really hoping they use Bran's lack of content to do flashbacks, that would be awesomeness.

One possibility would be to use Bran-tree for a lot of backstory exposition in season 5. It's a little clumsy, perhaps, but Bran could have "flashbacks" to explain things like the ToJ and the tourney.

Honestly, she has **** for story lines. I think the reason everyone finds her boring in the books is the reason she's lackluster in the show.

There is some validity to that point but still she looks like an actress to me, not Dany. She's just not that believable. She also has better lines than many others on the show. It's not all the time but sometimes. LF has the same issue whenever he gets into "twirl my moustache and be the evil schemer" mode and suddenly his accent appears.

Cersei has always been weak imo. The Cersei of the books is far more interesting and exudes sexuality, the Cersei of the show is just a bitter and cold ***** that is hard to fathom anyone lusting for her or liking her. She did a much better job in "300" imo. I'm sure some of that is her writing but she has had a lot of opportunity to improve her image. I've seen many of her interviews and she comes across as a not terribly bright actress that doesn't take her craft very seriously compared to the others.

which is funny to me and how you cant ell if someone is a book reader or just a show watcher. when someone talks about how she is their favorite, or what a "badass" she is, "why doesnt she just sail across the sea, she's unstoppable", etc, i know they havent read the books.

the books, as compared to the series, do a good job of showing that she is a hormonal, naive, teenage girl that doesnt really know what she is doing, and in fact has probably been more lucky than anything else.

HBO could solve that dilemma by having any events of note in Meereen occur while she is taking a bath. Seemed to work well with the Daario intro.

"Push off, Jorah, would you? There's a good chap. I'm trying to have a relaxing bath."

"May I remind you, khaleesi, that you have now been in that bath for over three years!!"

Regarding the show running out of Bran source material, there is always the chance that the show could dip into book 6 plots before book 6 does.

I'm kinda pissed someone already has obyren and the mountain figured out on the other thread.

It's been a few years since I read ADWD, but I'm 90% sure Dany has a shepard raise the question of his lost live stock first, then a few chapters later he or another petitioner brings his child's corpse. This makes Dany have a flood of emotions and she orders the dragons locked up.

Sweet Restaurant at the End of the Universe reference. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna read Number Two's lines in Ser Jorah voice every time I read that from now on.

Selmy is still around to tell Dany a lot about Rhaegar. They already dipped into the water a bit with Oberyn talking about Rhaegar running off with another woman. Maybe have Meera tell some of her stories, too.

Well episode 8 is called "The Mountain and the Viper" and several trailers showed them fighting, so I don't think hbo meant for it to be a huge secret

My dream is that next season they have an episode that starts off with Bran dreaming and the entire episode is the events of the Tourney of Harrenhall. That would be epic.

One thing that is sorely lacking is they have mentioned so little about Rhaegar in the show and it has been almost all negative. All the portrayals so far have been about him "kidnapping" or "running away" with Lyanna with no context. They make him sound like he was some scoundrel when in the books it is clear he was a warrior poet that was obsessed with the Prince that was Promised prophecy. They haven't even mentioned that prophecy, much less its importance.
