I guess my expectations are too high, but the writing is getting worse and the show is losing so much that made it good.
Meh I didn't think it was that terrible.
I thought it was a great episode, brutal as it was too watch. Not as good as hardhome, though.

I was calling for the dragons the whole time. Glad to see they (he) finally came through.

Knew Drogon was going to show up, was not expecting the fly over though. That was cool.
Please don't tempt book readers by asking such things as "Was it in the books?". If I wanted to know the differences between the two, I'd have read them and would be in a different thread.
Many were hoping Stannis would choose his daughter over the skank of light, but what got to me more was that the mother that was always ashamed of her daughter realized too late what she had, while Stannis ended up being stone faced.
I hate Stannis. I never liked him much to begin with but now his pride will hopefully be his downfall.
Damn that was harsh Stannis. Brutal.

I've been waiting years and at last was delivered a legit dragon barbeque. I'm glad they made Drogon not invincible yet, he looked very killable. The dragons are still young, growing, and will become more powerful, so they are leaving space for them to grow into the sort of weapons that can single-handedly wipe out armies.

Disappointed in the episode. Good episode but not episode 9 worthy. Dragon at the end was predictable and thought the CGI did not look good compared to other scenes.
I thought something huge was going to happen. So far this season there has been one good battle scene. That is about it.

Folks, we have built up the Episode 9 Badassery. Next week is the Season Finale...so let's wait for what is traditionally (for most shows) the best episode of the season.

There is so much butthurt on the internet right now over Shireen. Just like #RedWeddingTears, people swearing they'll stop watching the show. Peace out.
Folks seem to be forgetting that this is a fantasy universe where magic is real and human sacrifice gets results. There is nothing inconsistent about it...OF COURSE Stannis would do this when it came down to it, the Iron Throne is the ultimate value in his life and all other values, including his daughter, are subordinate to it. War is hell, and Stannis is going to be rewarded for the horrible thing he did. If you have a problem with it, take it up with R'hllor.

Well, she did say she wanted to help.
I kind of expected Stannis to sacrifice Shireen... I don't understand people still complaining about these results after watching this show for 5 seasons now. IMO was a great episode.
The ending:
I expected him to sacrifice her. I didnt expect him to do it by tricking her. Out of character imo.
