The director's sister is a nag who wanted her precious boy to be on TV. The director doesn't like his worthless nephew, but he gave in and let him sit in the boat. All he had to do was look back at the shore with a frightened look on his face, but he kept ruining take after take - looking directly at the camera, shouting "Oh my God" when he wasn't supposed to speak, etc.
The other actors got pissed off, so the director put a hooded cloak on his nephew, told him to stfu, and threatened to throw him off the set if he even moved.

What would be crazier is if he shows back up as a white walker. Instead of killing him they captured him and the walker king turned him like that baby last season or season before.

The reason behind it is much more simple than that: humans are stupid.
If Robb Stark had been taken hostage by Walder Frey, thrown on the floor, and viciously sexually assaulted by his men, I bet there would've been some outrage.
The reason people choose this time to be outraged is because it wasn't until there was a video of Ray Rice punching a woman before society decided it really really cared about domestic violence and wouldn't tolerate it.

Bill Burr has a great bit about this. John Bobbitt gets his D cut off and the nation make jokes. If some guy cut a girls T off there would an insane amount of outrage.

I was reading that apparently HBO Now views aren't counted towards ratings. That could possibly be affecting the numbers this season.

I think Cersei being locked up was more of a factor than Memorial Day. People have been waiting 5 seasons for it. Also Tyrion and Dany finally meeting.
And after Hardhome, plus the fact that episode 9 is infamously the "biggest" episode each season, I expect the next episode to break the series high.

I like the jump in viewers after Season 2 Ep 9. That was Battle of Blackwater Bay. What a great episode!

I think it's live + same day, so pretty sure DVR gets counted too. Not sure about HBO Go, but I assume so since it's an extension of the cable subscriptions.
