They cut out that turf that covers the mound. The mound actually retracts underground so they can lower it for concerts and other events

Lol. I will actually be over there on Friday

At least the globe life field guy will be working elsewhere now.

I still remember when our outfield grass was the laughing stock of the league.

Actually, He is running both stadiums now, and is pretty dang good at his job. He is held in pretty high regard around the profession. All that disaster proved is why you don't have ridiculous events with out proper budgeting in place to replace surface afterwards.

I love that the mound retracts into the ground but there was still some bs thrown to the media about whether or not we were going to have real grass or turf. This was designed as a multi-use facility from Day 1.

I feel like the green in the outfield and on the walls looks wrong, or possibly the cement, something looks wrong and I cant put my finger on it.

I am excited to see the stadium, and I know it will grow on us. Just hard when we had such a great looking stadium before.

The mouth service that they were ever thinking about grass is laughable. The intent was always to maximize revenue the other 280+ days of the year without baseball. Could grass have been successful with the technology of today? 100% it could. Is it feasible with concerts, football, etc? nope. I personally would not have been as annoyed if they just would have said so from the start.

Yup. I don't have a huge problem with it, I just hated that they kept floating it like they were really trying to make a tough choice and that it was taking into account all these baseball-related things when reality was it was just so they could be a horrible concert venue that generates massive $$$.

I'll take some heat for this since I know this was something that I was communicating

The turf is almost too green. It pops in a way that natural turf does not, I presume because the angle of sunlight is never uniform (i.e. noon) during an outside baseball game* but is pretty consistent indoors.

*Not counting Patriot's Day in Boston.

Respect for saying that. I know the organization, for lack of better words, put a muzzle on DK. I actually saw all the shade studies two years ago when we discussed what could and couldn't be achieved. I just wish they would have been forthcoming with the community. I don't think anything would have changed outcome wise.

Yeah. It is extremely green. The other test will be how it looks under the lights. Plastic grass has a tendency to look shiny. Hope they can avoid that, but it's a bit concerning that their cut at realistic green seems a bit questionable

I'm not optimistic about this happening, but I wonder if there will ever be a day when they switch back to all natural grass. Maybe after 10+ years if/when the concert/extra-curricular event market dies down they will go back to strictly baseball.

One reason I'm not optimistic is touring Chase Field in 2018 (year before they switched to turf). I forget the numbers, but I remember it was a massive time and money commitment every single day to have the roof open in the morning and early afternoon for the grass, then closing it and cooling all that cubic feet of space before BP.

The concert thing seems weird to me anyway with jerryworld right next door and available most nights of the year. How much business is this thing really going to get? Not enough incremental to make the arlington taxpayer's contribution worth it. Guarantee that

I still wish the warning track was actually dirt. I think that would have been something that would increase safety and not interfere with the other activities planned in the stadium
DannyDuberstein

Yeah, I don't get that either. And the point of a different surface as a warning track is for the feel to actually warn you while you stare up into the sky. I don't get the point of this

It is? That is great news. Last I saw when they did the demo panels showed it as different color turf

Hopefully it will. I'm not going to throw it under the bus based on these photos. But if we are stuck with baseball on plastic, I just hope the finished product at least looks good and as realistic as possible.

And I'm with ag00, the demos showed brown fake grass. So thats good news if this is dirt

You'd be surprised.

JerryWorld suits groups like U2, the latest boy bands, etc.

We went to RBiA for Billy Joel ($150/ea, IIRC) and Paul McCartney ($130/ea). Both were in Sec 12, IIRC, or there abouts. I'm guessing capacity at 35K? No way they get 100K. That's about $4.5M per event. That doesn't count parking, refreshments, and merchandise. From a revenue... it will add up quickly. Just those 2 concerts make $9M'ish. Both were during the season.

The Rolling Stones are playing at the Cotton Bowl. Jerry World is too big\expensive. I'm guessing they are going to be around 60-70K.

AAC... we saw Kiss there, last year. Probably 16-17K? Tickets for us were about $75/ea and on the side.

Eagles are playing at the AAC. They announced a 2nd show. Tickets were like $300. For them, an outdoor concert isn't likely something they would risk. Move that show to the new Rangers Field in Arlington, and I'd guess they could keep ticket prices and add another 20K people. But, I don't think they'd hit 100K.

Once some of these old people start to die, this craze will go away, but for now... big money.

This.

The AAC gives you crowds of around 20k and AT&T gives you crowds of 80-100k. There needed to be a middle ground. That's where GLF comes in and gives you a crowd of 40-50k
