Also still pissed that this game wasn't played the night before. Fixed.

I don't recall the details of this - can anyone provide more info?

Postponed for the chance of rain. Never rained

Wow - I don't recall that at all. Sucks to get old. Did the extra day give the Cards any sort of pitching advantage?

Yes, it let them start their ace Chris Carpenter in Game 7. Huge Huge Huge impact

Cardinals Ace Chris Carpenter was able to start Game 7 since Game 6 was postponed. He also was the starter for Games 1 and 5.

Cardinals won 5 out of the 6 games he started that postseason. So 5 of their 11 postseason W's were his starts. The Rangers did manage to win his game 5 start after losing to him in game 1 (although in game 5 he left a 2-2 tie game after 7 innings so didn't take an L). No way does he pitch in game 7 on 2 days rest if game 6 isn't prematurely postponed. Garbage.

Honestly it is one of the most glossed over non-in-game impactful decisions in recent history, typically because it was just "a team from Texas" that was on the bad end of it. That happens in a major baseball market and they'd still be talking about it to this day. 10-15% change in the Game 7 odds with Carpenter getting to pitch another game.

Probably cost me another $200 in bar tabs in St. Louis that "rainy" night too!

MLB and PA haven't agreed on compensation. There is apparently a plan in place once that's achieved.

Professional US Women's soccer figured this **** out.

The owners are the main one's to blame IMO...they are playing games before the CBA is up

I think one thing we've seen is its easier to finish a season nearer its end than figure out how to play a season which hasn't even started. No surprise NHL was able to get it together first, no surprise NBA is further along than MLB in getting it together.

Soccer leagues aren't playing with fans right now, but they were in the back stretch and are going to play their full schedules, or very close to it.

Additionally, and this is a big deal, we have developed an adversarial system in American pro sports between teams and players that doesn't exist in nearly the same way in most overseas sports leagues.

I was listening to MLB Network earlier and they were discussing this. What I haven't heard is will these players now become free agents? Will there be a bidding war for mid-tier, potential big Leaguers in the off season. Are these guys free and clear free agents now?
TXAggie2011

I think they're free and clear minor league free agents, but I also wouldn't expect guys being cut would be the ones teams would get into bidding fights about. As the article says, many likely would have been cut anyways and been looking for whatever they could get from whoever would be willing to sign them.

Further, with Rob Manfred going through with his plan to contract the minor leagues by 25+% percent, most of these guys' jobs were probably going away, anyways.

So players or owners, where do you land? A labor dispute is gonna cost us meaningful playing time this season, just how much remains to be seen.

Honestly, owners. The big money players have helped that perception along. Blake Snell mouthing off didn't help my opinion of their cause either. Nor does the reality that we likely see the other major sports get up and running without issue while they whine.

Quote:

The players aren't helping themselves. At the end of the day, they should have the option to not play if they are not comfortable, and they should be allowed to forego their pay. Not sure if I would allow acceleration of contract, or if I delete the year. Meaning, does their 2020 pay apply to 2021, and contract with 2 more years is applied to 2021 and 2022, or do I take a 2 year contract, and void 2020, and they end up under contract for 2021, like they would have, and that is it.

Not 100% positive (and don't have time to try to chase it down), but pretty sure MLB and the Players Assoc agreed already that 2020 counts as a year of service, even if they don't play this year. i.e. players scheduled to become free agents after this year will still be a free agent, even if they don't play. So I'd assume it would just wipe a year off of all of the existing contracts for the players if they don't play this season (not roll them forward by a year).

But they could always revisit that agreement and make revisions.
