I'm still pissed about this offseason and we've done nothing to rectify our dumpster fire azz lineup, but the pitching situation definitely looks a lot better than last year.
Kluber basically needs to come in and not be a bust or get hurt again. Shouldn't be too much to ask right?

If all we gave up was DeShields and Clase I'm all over this trade. The upside of Kluber is worth taking on the salary. We have other minor league RHP relief options that are similar to Clase. And DeShields is just a guy, he has speed but doesn't hit and has a noodle arm in the OF. We can pick up a CF off the scrap heap on a one year deal to bide time until Taveras is ready.
Or maybe we give Taveras a shot, I think he needs one more year though. I believe he has moved up steadily one level per year. A to AA, to AAA. He typically doesn't hit much at first until he adjusts to the new level (if I recall correctly), so he may need a full AAA season. Or maybe we roll him out there knowing he won't hit much at first Just got online today so I'll have to read up on what the beats are saying about CF options later today when I get some time.

That would make us BOTH happy. Probably most of Rangers fans on TexAgs...You will be happy Santana is playing everyday, and will end the demand he play 2B. And I will no longer have to tell you that Santana is an everyday player... just not a Middle IFer.
2019 was all about : "why isn't Santana playing everyday over Odor who is struggling?
2020 will be about : " why are we benching solak when he's a much better hitter than odor?
No clue if Kluber can bounce back, and i really liked Clase... but I will never complain about selling high on a bullpen arm.
Really like this move, and for what we gave up, the risk/reward makes it a steal. He gets a lot of hate, but I think it's a savvy move by JD.

Certainly last year was concerning, but the injuries Kluber dealt with didn't involve the shoulder or elbow at least. Given what he's being paid, you either get a very cheap ace if he returns to form, or a fair price on a solid #3. The risk is easily worth it. To give up bullpen piece and a light-hitting 4th OF, for a 2-time CY winner and potential legit ace, is a steal.

Yes, I saw that somewhere on twitter. THis is fine though, if he pitches 160 innings that means he is healthy and likely very worth the money anyway.

Rangers get cash back too from what I saw. It may or may not work out but it sure seems like a smart risk.

Certainly wasn't any major offsetting money, but I'll take it. DD and Clase for a shot at a true ace is pretty damned solid.
Hopefully they get somebody. It'd be nice to at least have meaningful baseball in August.

Just pulled this up from mlb.com, I think it is a little dated as Gardner resigned with the Yanks I believe. But these are the free agent CF options. So I can see a one year make do deal with one of Pillar, Dyson, or Hamilton. At least Dyson and Hamilton offer a speed offering to go with the defense. I believe Pillar has been slipping the past few years, but he still had a 1.5 WAR so maybe I just haven't noticed him. He used to be pretty solid defense with some occasional pop, but doesn't provide the speed you'd get from Hamilton or Dyson.
