Not sure if it's kosher for me to start this, but whatever.

Here is a view of the field from my seats for next season. Bring on that sweet sweet A/C.

Man, some of those seats out in center field look faaaaar away

I'll give it a shot when it opens, but the renderings have all been as bland as bland can be.

I've been over to the stadium probably 10 times now, and those views I showed you on the TV during your relocation appointment don't do the real thing any justice. It's going to be amazing once you're in there watching games

Thread looks legit.

Have you gotten to walk the stadium, yet? Those upper deck seats look incredibly high.

Looks like in reducing the capacity, they took out good seats and added worse seats. Not sure how that is possible. Putting a Rangers gif over the pic doesn't make it "Rangers'esque," it makes the stadium look forced and detached. Not very intimate.

Went to a Yankees stadium this summer as a bucket list checkbox. The different levels in this new stadium looks similar. You have to have an escort to get to the seats closest to the field. We were in the section just behind that, and the staleness of the game (and heat) had me walking around looking for something... anything. Left after only a couple innings. Our seats were in a section about 20 rows from the field above 1st Base. Seats were about 30% filled. Granted it was a day game and hot... but I wasn't impressed.

The new Yankees Stadium has no history or mystique. Just another stadium with a Logo affixed to it.

This couldn't be any more incorrect. Every seat in the ballpark is actually closer to the field and has a better vantage point of the game than in GLP. If you were sitting in the top row of the upper level in GLF, you'd be closer to the field than if you were sitting in the 1st row of the upper level in GLP.

FYI, the mezzanine level in GLF is going to be amazing. That is the second deck of the new ballpark

Are they sure it's going to be ready in time? I know it will be, but it's hard to believe when you look at it right now.

On time for a March 1st completion. It's about 80-85% complete right now.

That's just not true.

When it comes to field proximity, the real answer is "it depends". Shown below is where my season tickets are - old park marked with circle, new with square. They are comparably priced seats.

My new seats are higher due to the extra level of suites. BUT - they are closer to the field in the x axis. I am expecting it will not "feel" further away than we are now.

Quit the whining folks. I've had games between June- early September marked off completely for years because of the miserable heat. Would only go in April, May, or late September. My first game in this park will probably be in July or August and I'll be enjoying every second of that AC.

I'll be honest, I've been skeptical of the new ballpark for awhile, but after enduring another long summer and now that the new ballpark is nearly upon us...

...bring on opening day. I'm really excited about it.

Given where we live and the hot weather we always endure, the decision to build an indoor park in 1994 should've been a no brainer. Whoever's idea it was to build globe life park outside, well.... it was a very stupid idea.

As was covered in the previous thread, we endured less heat back in the day.

Certainly, it is unfortunate there was not a bit more "vision" at the time, but you have to understand the economics of the moment and also that a long struggling franchise finally had a chance to do something "big." The Rangers were akin to a really hyped AAAA franchise for a long time.

Look, no one is upset about having air conditioning, but when you spend $1.1 billion paid for by increased taxes and ticket prices, you don't really get to play the "its got A/C so get over it..." card. You do it all clearly right or you endure the skepticism and try to prove people wrong, and don't respond with apparent falsities as above.

Y'all should venture over to the Astros thread. How quickly they turn on their own team when they're losing

Yeah it's quite funny. So hope they lose this series as I don't want to cheer for the Yankees ( but I will)
Grapesoda2525

At least they will go into the Yankees series limping. If the current result holds, they will have to burn Cole in game 5.

Falsities? What is false about him stating what his buying habits have been and what they will be in the future?

Astro fans should be concerned.

Game 5's can go either way. It will be all hands on deck for both teams.

The rays are a very salty team. Their pitching is amazing, they don't make hardly any mistakes, and they barely ever beat themselves. It's a very smart and well rounded baseball team.

I think the Astros will win Thursday, but the rays have definitely put up a fight.

To clarify, the "you" in that post is not grapesoda, and that was a reference to the earlier claim about the distance from seats to the field.

It looks like a rather generic "new" stadium.

And the roof will be closed 90% of the time.

And between the bases on the lower level will be corporate-city.

BUT... it has A/C.... which will get me out there significantly more so I understand the decision.

Though if you asked me which I'd rather have -- a new stadium with A/C or the old stadium but the TRE running to the stadium nightly I'd choose the latter.
Grapesoda2525
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't get why the roof being closed 90% of the time is a bad thing.

We live in the south dang it! Our summers are brutal.

From everything I've seen, the "roof being closed" will not feel as cave like as the Astrodome of Skydome. The roof will have lots of ETFE sections that will allow natural light in. Here's an article about it.

https://www.mlb.com/rangers/ballpark/globe-life-field/news/globe-life-field-roof-design-announced

And 90% isn't an accurate statement. There are 81 home games, so that is suggesting roof is only open for 8 games. I'm guessing roof is open for most games through mid June.

EDIT: This rendering gives a feel for what it's going to look like. Those suggesting "geez it's just like MMP" just aren't looking very closely. Yeah, it's indoors and has a baseball field.

wbt5845

As a comparison - MMP similar view.

And where I think GLF will really be superior is with roof open. Why people say GLF looks like MMP, especially open, is beyond me.

It's been a few years since I looked into it but the Astros had multiple seasons where the roof was only open for 10-15 games a year. On the high side that is 18%.

Globe Life Park and Minute Maid Park look more similar to me than either of them appears to Safeco. But, obviously the Mariners aren't a "bitter" in-state rival, either.
