The cast so far, in order of casting announcements, from earliest to latest...

When I read James S.A. Corey's series (The Expanse) he was absolutely the only one who could play the part of Amos. I thoroughly enjoyed casting him for the role as I played out the book in my head.

Off topic of this thread, but , I am in the middle of reading the 5th Expanse book and am enjoying them (book four kinda fell off, but 5 has been interesting). I thought the actor who plays Amos on the TV show has actually been pretty great and it would be difficult to see someone of Batista's size playing the role. Guess I like the Amos in my head to be formidable, but a little more of an average man.

GREAT casting. These guys are on a roll.

What drives a great cast like this? Actors want to work with the director? Or does Dune have a lot of Hollywood cache?

It's got to be wanting to work with the director. After Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 there's no reason to think that Denis won't knock this one out of the park. If it's the start of a highly successful "Star Wars for adults" franchise then that's even better for the actors.

Don't discount the fact that Dune is considered in most circles to be the top SciFi novel of all time. And a top overall novel of all time as well.

Sure. But for today's audience?

True, but I'd be a lot less excited about this if it were being directed by Zack Snyder or Michael Bay. Denis Villeneuve's proven that he can do high-level science fiction right, so much so that I can't think of any other director that I'd trust more with this one.

My 16 year old son recently read it and loved it.

Also, I wonder how they will communicate Paul's thoughts? Will they just have a voice-over like the old movie? Will be interesting for sure.

Yes, because of GoT. Dune heavily influenced much of the politicking and chess games we see in GoT... spoiler for Dune: and the whole dad dies kinda early thing

Great casting - Bardem from an acting and general look seems like a great fit. But, he's always come across as pretty... stocky to me, rather than lithe/wirey like I'd expect of the Fremen. That said, movies can make Tom Cruise look normal height, so I'm sure it'll be fine.

If a deal makes, Brolin will play Gurney Halleck, a troubadour-swordsman loyal to the family who is instrumental in the wakening of Atreides' cosmic powers which will start a revolution.

The lengthy roll call already includes Timothee Chalamet as the lead character, Paul Atreides, as well as Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem. Zendaya and Oscar Isaac in talks to also join the lineup.
This cast is incredible!

I actually think Brolin would be better at Duncan compared to Gurney considering the "next book " aspect.

I think they'll go with someone more youthful for Duncan. Also, Duncan's black. I'm predicting Daniel Kaluuya since he's worked with Villenvue before, though I think Anthony Mackie would be terrific in the role.
