Yep, Dune definitely isn't any sort of allegorical tale.

Arrakis - Iraq
Spice - Oil
Fremen - Iraq natives
The Houses - Different Western Oil Companies


It's my favorite book, but it is definitely political. What makes it so excellent is that it isn't heavy handed with forcing readers to conclusions. Additionally, the allegory is only the framework for the story and not an end into itself. That framework allows us to get into a world that is familiar enough to let the imagination soar.

Having read the book, the way I interpreted it is their eyes would be solid blue, no white parts at all. Those pictures clearly show white parts. Maybe other book readers can clear it up and tell me if I'm wrong.

I'm afraid solid blue wouldn't translate well to screen in terms of emotion. We have to at least be able to see their irises/pupils, the direction they're looking, etc.

It took me until 2020 to finally read Dune and I purposely avoided the casting until after I was done. I typically hate when people use terms like "pitch perfect" to describe movies and such, but man do I love the idea of Javier Bardem as Stilgar.

Yea I think that was Chalamet. I've seen him in a couple of movies now and it sounds more or less like his voice. Maybe he's giving the character a little Bale/Batman treatment so it sounds a little different.

I finally read the book this year. I am really appreciative of how well they went for a certain look of actor in the casting, not just picking who was hot in Hollywood right now.
