If you listen to the ticket, they're currently doing a Last Jedi pregame show. No spoilers, all speculation and what they're excited about. Pretty fun listen so far.

About 30 min left. You can listen at theticket.com

I have tickets for the 9:30 pm showing on Thursday. This is my first experience for a "first showing" premiere. I've never been part of an audience like this!! For those that saw the TFA on premiere night, what was it like? Was there cheering throughout the movie or does everyone stay reserved until the end?

My showing for Rogue One & TFA were pretty reserved. Some cheering but nothing ridiculous. Most people there are hyber-focused, it seems.

Saw a Thursday evening premiere showing of TFA and the crowd was pretty into it and cheered at the big moments. They actually accidentally started playing the crawl at the same time as one of the trailers and everyone freaked out, but luckily they stopped it before it went on for too long.

For TFA people cheered and clapped at the opening crawl and the same when Solo showed up.

I'm not usually that type, but I was with my wife and wanted to have some fun with it... After a few timid claps I busted out some louder applause and some manly war cries and the rest of the audience followed suit and got rowdy.

Point being, on opening night if you want the theater to be a bit loud you can take matters into your own hands and I bet others will fall in line.

The day before ROTS opened in 2005, this dumb friend of a friend texted me the spoiler about the confrontation with Palpatine/Anakin/Mace Windu. He was supposed to be part of our group to the midnight showing of ROTS. When I texted back "WTF did you do that for?" he told me it as just a movie and to lighten up.

Funny thing, on the way to the showing his ticket accidentally blew out the window of my car.

I am a regular for opening releases for these type of things and they are my favorites. The crowds are real into it which bothers some but enhances the movie experience for me.

The Empire are the good guys, and I'm boycotting all the films (which are terrible anyway) until fanboys acknowledge this reality.

Hell....my theatre was like this and we saw it Saturday or Sunday of opening weekend.

Probably my favorite part was when Rey did the force grab on the light saber.....whole theatre went nuts with hoots and hollers

My theater for TFA clapped and cheered in all the right places. There was applause for the Star Wars logo and theme kicking in, for each of the big character intros (Han, Leia, R2), and even when the Falcon appeared.

I can't remember if there were cheers when Luke showed up. I was way too enraptured to notice. But there was applause when it cut to credits, for sure.

For Rogue One, there was less cheering throughout, but for whatever reason, more energy at the end. Got some LOUD cheers at the end, most likely due to the sheer badassery of the Vader scene.

Yeah, at the theater I was at there was a pretty diverse reaction to the end of R1. I distinctly remember people going "holy ****, they're really all going to die" and one lady actually crying as Jyn and Cassian holding each other as they're engulfed in the blast. Then of course, some cheers when Vader laid waste to the Rebel forces.

My theater for Rogue One seemed to be in utter shock. The moment K2 died, it was pretty damn obvious where it was going. From that point forward, it was more of a "they really aren't going to do this, are they"? By the time it got to the scene where Vader said, "Prepare a boarding party" and then it cuts back to Jyn and Cassian I think many thought that we were done. I could hear sniffling. Of course, this is where mentally I regretted knowing that Vader had a badass scene, because I knew that had not happened yet. Then, it cut back to Vader's transport with Tie escorts, and one guy let out a loud "Hell Yes", and the place laughed. It was the emotional break the entire room needed that had not been provided in that third act, unusual for Star Wars but probably the right decision in this case.

Pretty interesting post here on the soundtrack yesterday that there are callbacks to the OT and the PT.

BE Spilner - I defer to you as resident expert on the PT soundtracks; what do you think might be the most likely? I was thinking on it last night - Duel of the Fates if there's another Rey/Ren showdown? Battle of the Heroes? If Ghost-akin shows up, maybe a sinister version of Anakin's Theme or Anakin's Dark Deeds?

Or the obvious choice, "Across the Stars" when Poe and Finn are reunited.

Two days for me. It will be interesting to have this thread full of thoughts when I come back around to it on Friday night / Saturday morning. Excited to see how this compares to the other films, though it appears like it is definitely one that will require multiple viewings to truly assess.

I hope Finn's arc is improved in this film; I found him to be the least interesting character in TFA.

It's gotta be Duel of the Fates. That track is now tied into the idea of "fate", the will of the force, that kinda thing.

Think of the times it played in the PT:

1. The duel in TPM (Led to Obi-Wan taking Anakin as an apprentice)
2. Anakin going to save his mother (Leads Anakin to the dark side)
3. Anakin vs Obi-Wan / Palps vs. Yoda

So, I could see it played (or being hinted to subtly) during whatever "fateful" duel we may get in this movie, whether it be Rey vs Kylo, or Luke vs someone.

I don't really see a place for any other PT theme in this movie, to be honest. Battle of the Heroes would be cool but doesn't have the same gravitas that a DOTF would have.

Based on the non-spoiler reviews I've heard, his story is widely considered one of the weak points of the movie.

Does that mean Tran's arc sucks too? If so, it looks like they tried to shoehorn in POC without a true idea on where to go with these characters. Sad if that is how it turns out.

Based on Jeremy Jahns' and Chris Stuckman's, their story in the film seems to be the thing that really slows the film down.

To tack onto this, Battle of Heroes was appropriate given that Kenobi thought it was going to have some finality to it and it was also the last fight of the PT iirc, aside from the fact that both Anakin and Kenobi's stature in the military of The Republic IMO. An arrangement of Duel of the Fates seems more appropriate given the point at which we are in the trilogy, and whatever it might lead to during the final installment of the ST.

In Rogue One, I had no idea the Vader scene was coming at the end and when I I heard his breathing I let an audible "Oh shiiiit" that the whole theater heard. I apologized as the credits rolled.

And I can't remember if it wasTFA or Rogue One, but something pre-movie like a trailer or trivia or something was rolling for a Star Trek something or other and some guy yells out "Star Wars is Better!!" Whole theater got a good laugh out of that.

I had no idea about the Vader scene either. Even when he ignited his lightsaber, I kept expecting it to cut to black and roll credits.

When the guy says "OPEN FIRE!", my heart started racing. I had a full blown nerdgasm.

That Vader scene is a top 5 Star Wars moment for me.

I would argue Rogue One wouldn't be near as well-liked as a movie if that two minute scene had not been included. The third act as a whole was awesome and it made the movie, but I think the Vader scene really moved the needle on the movie's lasting impression.

To tie it back to TLJ, based on the reviews, it sounds like the movie has more "wow" moments than TFA.

"Duel of the Fates" is also the PT's trademark song. right? I almost can't imagine it being anything else and anyone recognizing it very easily.

Random prediction, one day out --

Obi-Wan force ghost in TLJ. We heard his voice in TFA for a reason

And maybe they're avoiding a Ewan McGregor casting announcement in order to surprise everyone with his appearance in TLJ.

Brian may have a different opinion on it, but I'd say that Duel of the Fates and Battle of Heroes are the two immediately recognizable themes from the PT with Duel of the Fates being probably the more widely remembered theme IMO. Other themes that are recognizable from the PT are Across the Stars and Padme's Funeral (can't remember the exact title).

Perhaps the most widely recognized theme in the entire franchise is The Force Theme (Binary Sunset) though. With Williams doing the score and Luke back this go around, I'm really expecting some pretty heavy usage of The Force Theme.

Prediction I have not including the one spoiler a student told ruined (if true) during class

Rey is Anakin all over again. The female birth conceived by the force.
