Tweet has been removed but basically some guy said, "Right about now would be a great time to release the trailer," and then Mark Hamill coyley replied with something along the lines of, "You might wany to watch Monday Night Football on October 9." And now the fact that Hamill deleted the tweet confirms it even more. So, yeah... trailer in exactly three weeks.

Why keep the trailer release date under wraps? You know how many nerds will tune in to get the first glimpse and boost NFL ratings? Seems like a disservice to their NFL counterparts...

I'm sure they have some kind of marketing plan. They won't keep it under wraps up to the last minute, but they could probably muster a huge # of nerds to MNF within a few hours if they wanted to do so.

Exactly. This kind of stuff is super planned out, down to the announcement itself. It's all based on news cycles and days 'til release and all that kind of stuff. I doubt this is the case here, but sometimes certain sites or companies even pay to host the exclusive announcement/hosting/streaming rights too.

Ok seriously though... no other Star Wars saga film started immediately after the previous one ended. They usually fill you in on what happened in between movies.

For this one, they could go into what Leia is doing as well as elaborate on Kylo's training.
