Here is the only problem with your statement. You seem to think that by saying Bryan leadership is running circles around College Station leadership that it means Bryan is doing a really good job on that front. No. They also suck. All it really means is College Station leadership is atrocious at it and Bryan leadership is just moderately bad...PS3D said:When College Station buys an old department store, it's "government overreach". Free? The company is leasing the land from the city for $175,000 per year (with a 1% annual escalation) once the project is complete.PS3D said:When College Station buys an old department store, it's "government overreach". Prior to excavations beginning at the lake, core samples were taken across the lake in a grid formation to determine the levels of arsenic at various depths for a total of 270 sediment samples analyzed for arsenic. We were pleasantly surprised to learn from test samples that arsenic levels were low enough to allow disposal at our local landfill. The design team used these results to prepare the excavation plans and give the contractor specific direction.
....
Arsenic exists naturally in soils and sediment and the plan was never to eliminate all traces of arsenic but rather the plan was to deepen the lake for greater water capacity, enhanced aesthetics, and expanded recreational use. The lake sediment and nearby soils were previously cleared by TCEQ for fishing and recreational activities prior to beginning this current project. The excavation of the 143,132 cubic yards of material further enhances the lake for recreational activity.
Read the agreement, the first two years of rent are a dollar a year. Yeah it goes up to $60k in year 3 and the city expects a bunch of money in sales or to cover the difference, but it doesn't go to $175k a year until year 5.rocketscience said:Free? I got to tour the new Blinn building at RELLIS the other day. A huge chunk of the first floor is devoted to an esports arena. I guess A&M is saying "Hold my beer."AggieBaseball06 said:Seems like an awful lot of money and wasted space to play Call of Duty.gigem92 said:

Maybe an arena to host Esports eventsTailgate88 said:
Are they going to have drone racing? Why would you need such a huge space for video games?
I have no inside data on esports or drone racing revenue but my gut tells me that this is a growing market and not a bad gamble for the city to optimize the mall space.maroon barchetta said:
It's too small and oddly arranged for a big tournament.
No way is the esports team getting charged anything close to the rent it would require for the city to break even.
This has the look of trying to bail out the Titanic with a thimble

Betting a significant portion of this board have no idea that the Schulmans once owned all the theaters in BCS.
Good people.

The Anchor Bar is spreading its wings even wider, with plans to open six new franchise locations across the country next year.
Mark Dempsey, CEO of Anchor Bar Franchise and Development and co-business partner with Marcia Wright, said the new locations will be located in the following communities:
- Bradenton, Florida
- Cincinnati, Ohio
- College Station, Texas
- Leesburg, Virginia
- Orlando/Lakeland, Florida
- Raleigh, North Carolina
The Anchor Bar's original location on Main Street in Buffalo is considered to be the birthplace of the "original Buffalo chicken wing." There are now 13 other Anchor Bar locations, including five in Western New York, four in Texas and one across the border in Hamilton, Ontario.

I am growing tired of responses like this when a new business is announced. Someone has apparently decided it is worthwhile and decided to put their money into opening this restaurant up. I guess we will see how the BCS market responds. I wish them, and anyone else taking the risk to open a business in the community, success. You are certainly welcome to not eat there if you don't think it is needed.AG81 said:Captn_Ag05 said:

Another chicken wing place? Can't have too many of those.
