Salad and Go would be a good option. Low cost, tasty salads, breakfast burritos for $2.99, and $1 coffees and teas.

Well, looks like I will get my request on this one. Salad and Go is building a location near Texas and SW Parkway. According to the TDLR site, construction is expected to be complete in April.

Since my post in January, they've raised prices for all menu items 25 cents.

The address on the TDLR site is the same as the Kettle. Wonder if they're finally throwing in the towel.

I am curious about that as well.

I didn't really get the 1st level commercial with residential above until a recent trip to Paris. It works great for areas with concentrated population and foot traffic and Northgate is heading that way. I think it could end up working out great over the next 10-20 years.

Lone Star Southern Grill out of Brenham (https://www.lonestarsoutherngrill.com/) is building a location near Academy.

The plans call for a 10,000+ square foot restaurant with construction beginning later this year.

Agreed, but I do think ground level retail, restaurants, bars, will be important as more towers go up. If the bars get priced out and move out of Northgate, you will have a new bar district develop somewhere else which will re-create the issue of students driving to and from the bars.

An idea for the Macy's building and surrounding area…?

Not sure the right place to post this, but the College Station City Manager is attempting to impose new rules on the Northgate area. Make it more "family friendly" and force bars to close at Midnight.

Please sign the petition if you disagree with the City of College Station imposing their will on Northgate.

Leave Northgate Alone

Not sure if they're thinking about how badly this would damage tourism at large here. The ripple effect on hotels, restaurants etc could be devastating.

And when not tourism, the local economy being hurt on weekends with students and locals leaving to other cities because this town has effectively a curfew for adults.

Other SEC schools etc might not make trip to college station if they can't enjoy themselves like other locales. Puts this town at a competitive disadvantage.

Northgate has gotten so bad the last two years, it's very dangerous. I see it every night because I am a ride share driver. It's not safe and fun like it was in the 1990s or early 2000s. Lots of police and lots of drunk fighting. It's not the same great place it once was. College Station needs to end these "bar districts" and spread the bars out, for safety. At the very least, the City should pass a 21 and up ordinance; no two bars should be next to/near the other. So many lives are ruined in underage drinking arrests, and drunk driving. Why are these bars next to the University when college students aren't old enough, legally, to drink? Allowing minors into a bar is just a trap, we all know many are drinking. I would love to see Northgate turn into a high end shopping area with a family friendly amphitheater. If you spread the bars out, you will limit the crimes and danger of mass crowd drinking. It's time for a change.

OTOH having all the drinkers concentrated in one place seems to make it easier for the police to monitor. These days they just keep an eye on the parking garage and if they see someone urinating there in public, they arrest them.

I'm not sure how you can say that the current Northgate is dangerous and out of control, then say that it was "safe and fun" back 20-25 years ago. They instituted the no open containers ordinance in the mid-2000s because it was getting out of control, even back then.

Now that's a take. We might as well move Haynes King to WR while we are also making Northgate a walkable, family friendly, high end shopping center…with an amphitheater. I'm no NG frequent patron but that's not a good use of high dollar real estate at all.

Also, if you talk to bar owners (know one who has 3-4), the problem is that the City's impose curfews on other surrounding bars in the City, so the kids, who have already been out drinking, want to continue to do that and the only bars open are NG bars. Naturally, they are already inebriated, and it's 1am, so more riff raff and unruly behavior is going to occur. Essentially City curfew on other bars is funneling them to NG. Yes, another case of government getting involved, mucking things up, and then complaining about their own mess. Ugh.

Hopefully Bryan can step with with the bar scene. Just imagine the Chicken closes at midnight but a series of bars just inside Bryan on South College just inside Bryan stays open until 2.

A new smoke shop is going in the shopping center at the corner of Holleman Dr W and 2818/Harvey Mitchell PKWY. It's called Rock n Roll It Smoke Vape Hemp. It's the first business in that center that has been around for a few years sitting empty.

Also, the city of Bryan posted a few months back plans for a new restaurant on South College. The plans were very suburban with parking in front of the building and completely ignoring the vision of a walkable Midtown Bryan. I called them out on it on here and it seems like someone listened and changed the plans to have a patio facing the street where you can also walk straight into the building as a pedestrian and parking at the back of the building. Much better design! It's not 100% how I would like to see development along this corridor go, but it's a great introduction/start.

These are the design plans for a mixed use commercial and multifamily development at the corner of Woodson and College Main, very close to Z islander. This is consistent with the city of Bryan's master design plan for the area between the Midtown Park and Northgate.

Anyone know what the deal is with Hullabaloo Diner out on Wellborn. Just drove into the lot and everything is set up inside but it was closed. Says online that it's open until 8/9. The place connected to it had plenty of customers but doesn't serve a full menu. TIA. Looking for a diner in and around town since the Brenham airport one closed as well (apparently)

It's packed tonight. But everyone is in the bar or outside.

The diner car hasn't been used since COVID started. Staffing issues have been a problem.

They are open. Friday is pizza night. Go go get some!
