My outsiders perspective is it was a great trade for the Spurs. Should applaud the organization for what they got given the situation because they had no leverage and DeRozan is damn good.

As good as Kawhi? No... but he's locked in for a couple of years and you never know what they can do around Aldridge and him. I think Golden State breaks up in a year and the West opens up again too.

Like he deal for the Raptors too. They are never going to lure a top 5 guy and that team was destined for 3 more seasons of 4 seed basketball with their core. Break it up and try to go for broke this year and convince Kawhi to stay. If he doesn't, you are closer to blowing it up

If anyone wants to feel good about this trade go listen to the Bill Simmons podcast.

Essentially, the Spurs got a All NBA player out of this and that almost never happens. There have been very few star for star trades in the history of the league. A huge factor is the fact that Derozan has a reputation for working his butt off every summer to improve elements of his game. He's been getting better every year and could very well continue that trend. He may be a little undervalued right now simply because of Labron kicking Toronto's ass in the playoffs last year. Now the Spurs have 2 Top 15 players. Not many teams can say that.

I'm glad the Spurs are staying relevant, at least as relevant as the other teams playing for second place in the west. With a third potential stud in Rudy Gay in year two in the organization, I like our chances of winning a couple in the series against the Warriors.

I really like the trade at the end of the day. The big question mark will be our defense without our three best perimeter defenders in Kawhi, Danny, and Kyle. If Pop can get everyone to buy in defensively where we are a top-10 defensive team, I think this team could compete for a conference finals slot.

Imo if he plays the season out at a high level everything will be forgiven. If he looks like he's coasting, nursing injuries, or flat out decides not to play even the LA teams probably won't be that hot to pay him.

A summary of Danny Green's injury on his podcast.

  • He strained his groin against Boston last December trying to go for a block. Next day got an MRI and showed a strained groin.
  • Took some time off and his agent said maybe he should get a second opinion but Danny said no he trusted the team.
  • Throughout the season the team monitored it but never checked on it again.
  • End of season had final physical and showed that there was a tear. He's not sure when he got the tear.
  • Did say it would have been nice to get a second opinion because there are different specialists that specialize on different parts of the body.
  • He ultimately did say he wanted to keep playing because he's a competitor, they needed to win and needed enough guys to win. He had good and bad days with his injury.
  • Is currently rehabbing it.

I'm not sure what's going on here but now that he's not with the Spurs he has a podcast and talking.

NBA players have been playing over the summer like this forever. Some games are more organized and more publicized than others.

He probably could have passed the physical 6 months ago.
